2nd place - ABCB category - Best of the Forms Contest. Prompt: Forgotten Tears
He studies now the face of the woman
He once thought was the girl of his dreams.
He'd had so much hope when it all began
But life's not always the way it seems.

When he looks at her, he doesn't notice
The slender body or long, dark hair.
All he can see now is a heart turned cold
And his pain when she had an affair.

A different woman returned to his world,
Just a friend until the time was right.
Now all the heartbreak and tears he once knew
Are forgotten when she holds him tight.

When he looks at her, he doesn't notice
Extra pounds or the gray in her hair.
All he can see is a heart full of love
And an answer to a desperate prayer.
