Memories are treasures...
I had a dream
I remembered
We were young
Me maybe fourteen
You not quite
Both of us going on
Would be lovers
I remember the strawberry fields
How meeting you
Made me forget the toil
From morn till late afternoon
I remember
The secret sorties
Our shared stories
In nearby woods
Taste of your strawberry lips
Scent of your skin
Kissed a little too harshly
By an ardent sun
Of aging June
I remembered you again
As I cycled today
Along our former strawberry fields
Now a housing subdivision
With paved roads
Suburban structures
Of would-be homes
With molly-coddled lawns
And manicured bushes
Where we’d never have shared
A single story
And most certainly not
A single secret
Now
Not a hint of strawberry scent
Amidst the smell of barbecues
And gas powered lawnmowers
But don’t be sad
I remember
The Beatles wrote a song
