3,460 Medals of Honor Awarded For 3,455 separate acts of heroism by 3,441 individuals
From Civil War, to World Wars, to other conflicts across the sea

They placed the lives of others above their very own,

These men fought long and hard to ensure we’d all be free,

and many of them died; they are never coming home.

With courage and commitment we all honestly must agree.

their courage and commitment, as heroes once or twice,

That when a choice was needed, each said to Him, ‘take me’.

Each man received a Medal for their selfless service.

The values of valor and fidelity are hallmarks of a hero

For they stood before their God and demonstrated a credo

Of those our Nation recognized in the face of enemy fire.

Who are these men of honor, who risked their lives for me?

These men risked their lives for others, they will never tire,

They are from every walk of life; cities, farms & by the sea

Men who are ‘bravest of the brave’ this Nation’s ever seen.

The President bestowed upon them an award for valor

Each showed courage under fire, due to their integrity

Whether Army, Navy, Air Force, or United States Marine,

These men are the Recipients of the Medal of Honor.

These common men who seized upon their destiny.
