a short poem from a final project i turned in for my english class. tell me what you think
excerpts of letters to my friends

you never knew my heart or habits
drew a picture by the sound of my voice
weren't interested in what would make me
laugh or cry
wanted your lady to stand naively by
knew my measurements
would've picked me out in a crowd
tried to win my body without winning my heart
i let you in, turned my head and shut off my heart
you, seemed to know my heart
when to offer a hug
understood my train of thought
knew the face behind the mask
in wanting to protect me you hurt me more than you'll ever know
broke my heart by losing my trust
my faith in you, pride too
cut deeply, when i discovered the truth
you, you know me better than i realize
holding my innermost thoughts
your impressions, in a box i can't unlock
treating me unique,
as a lady, like a sister
a good friend
making me laugh, holding me when i cry
firmly holding onto who i used to be
gently nudging me to who i am
surprise
my heart is surprised and shy
you, you have been the friend that i have desired
The friend i appreciate more than i can say
The friend i am surprised by, shy with and real with
The friend who loves and expects nothing in return
