I wrote this poem for my dad a couple years ago, for father's day.
My Own Superhero

To my dad on Father’s Day:
When I was little,
You were my hero,
Always off to fight some war.
You always returned,
Gifts in hand,
And I loved you more then anything.
My preteen years came,
And I felt neglected,
Too many family problems,
No time for the younger one.
Teen years are passing,
Like water,
I’m growing up before your eyes,
Almost in college.
But in your eyes I see your love,
You do not try to hide it,
It shines like a star.
Your little girl,
Is no longer that small.
You used to tell me,
To hold your hand,
Or you’ll fly into the sky,
Always with that sparkle in your eye.
The one thing I have always known,
Is that you’re coming home.
I may make mistakes,
And will make more in the future,
But the one thing I will always count on,
Is my father’s love.
You’ll always protect me,
From the demons of the world,
Like my own superhero,
That I will always have.
I can only hope,
My little girl has the same type of dad,
That you are to me.
You are the best,
And deserve your own day.
Hold my hand,
So I don’t fly away.
