I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.
I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.
I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Day 3439: March 12, 2024
Prompt: Today is Plant a Flower Day
What kind of flower would you like to plant? Where would you like to plant the flower?
Apondia
I planted mint in a flowerpot last week and the sunshine is making it grow up fast. I used to have a mint plant that lasted indoors in a hanging pot for several years. I would break off pieces and feed it to my parrots. I also dried it and used it for tea. The parrots like all kinds of green herbs as part of their treats. I would like to plant crocus. I have one crocus that comes up every year I would like to plant a whole bed of them maybe I will this year.
After a two-day snowstorm we are having whole days of sunshine. Good-bye snow hello spring. Have a good day. Bye.

Let this event in history inspire your thoughts about today's increased violence from law enforcement and civilians. How do we find a way to resolve issues without it coming down to pepper spray and nightsticks or guns?
Apondia
Over the years I was unfortunate enough to see a lot of news coverage in real time. I saw two presidents shot, Attacks from a shooter in Texas, a local suicide during a news event, coverage of tornado destruction and other memorable events.
Princess Megan Rose posted a nice blog on Blog City today worth reading.
When my dogs spy a squirrel or chipmunk out the window, I have to tell them "Calm down." and they do. I guess that does not work with people in the headlines, who have what is considered political power these days.
I have to tell you there was other times in my life when the world powers were very threatening. It calmed down after a while when enough people were killed, or common sense took over. Lately, I think they may be testing God. Probably not a good thing to think and hope it is not a true thought.
In any event it would take enough individuals to say No to violence but then, what about protecting yourself from violence. If you don't protect yourself history shows you, they will behead you or hang you on a cross. After all the violence I simply have no answers, I know how but, I can't make others listen.
When evil raises its head, truth straitens out a path to peace.
Bye for now.

Prompt: "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." Leo Tolstoy War and Peace Write about this in your Blog entry today.
Apondia
In my life I have had to shuffle time for the things I want to do. My time is something other people always want to use for themselves. Time has to include knowledge and learning because the best use of time has to do with making life decisions that work for you. You cannot make good time use decisions without knowledge.
Lots of patience is something else that there is a lot of need for in our world today. And patience is something I need to gather and spread every day. When there are so many online ideas about war and violence today it makes me wonder why so many people who control countries are impatient with each other. Instead, I hear this: I want the land you live on / it you do this I will do that / we will do whatever we want / make me. Actually, reading a well written history book will help you understand what is going on better than some news reports. My patience frays easily lately, I wonder why?
Have as good a day as you can--make time for something you like to do. Bye for now.

Where is your desk locate? If you don't have a desk, where do you write? Does the location of your desk encourage or discourage your creativity?
My desk is located in a corner of the room. However, my computer is offline permanently. Once again, my computer was sabotaged. I lost two other computers the same way. There is a group of fundamentalists that believe every family should only own one computer, TV, or other appliance All of the books I use to research or do bills, or other types of computing are on my desk. I use Keith's computer and I do not write on it as easily as I do in my own spot. If I am on his computer, I have to move everything I might need that day to write over, then move it back when I am finished. For a while the printer did not work now, we seem to have fixed that problem. Wi-Fi is part of the problem.
Plus, since last summer when I started an overhaul on the house I have hit all kind of snags. What I am experiencing is very involved and very serious. I don't wish to share everything that is happening to me online. There is enough horror going on in the world and I prefer to keep fighting quietly the evil that is being presented to me personally as a part of life.
Financial instability is part of the situation. If we don'[t keeps the bills paid, we will bankrupt, and I won't be on WDC anymore which would make a lot of people near me happy. Also, someone recently as in the previous year was asking questions about how to put me in an old folk's home?? No mention of the fact that I'm in pretty good health for a 79-year-old person.
I'm not bragging I'm as startled by good health at my age as anyone. As a child I avoided food as often as I could.
Now I've learned that the less food we eat the better we are. I've become an advocate of the idea that the body is built to exist on just enough food that is good for you to sustain life.
As for writing, I am trying to write more. Twice lately, I had short story ideas and did not sit down to write them. Some writing time is being taken up by reading. I found this in the library where I get books for my kindle. "Michael A. Sheehan, Erich Marquard, Liam Collins-Routledge Handbook of US Counterterrorism and Irregular Warfare Operations."
This book is helping me grasp a lot of the names and places that have been in the Media for a lot of years. So far it is also explaining most of the Muslim groups and countries that have been or are presently involved in Middle East struggles. I thought it would be difficult to read instead it reads easily and is a very don't put it down type of story.
I recognize there is a worldwide struggle for the control of worldwide populations. Some of the groups involved are fundamentalist protestants, the Catholic Church, different sects of Muslims, Democracy vs. Republics and others. Maybe you can name a few? I guess my simplistic view is let farmers farm, manufactures manufacture and the public buy. I know how simple that really seems but I'm tired of warfare that most of the public does not really want.
Guess I've bent your ear long enough over a simple prompt. Hope your day is peaceful and full of profit. See Ya!

Andre the Blog Monkey *MONKEY* is looking for short blog entries about US Presidents
I find this totally fascinating.
Reference:
https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/f1k3r1/42_out_of_43_us_presidents_a...
According to the above reference 42 out of 43 USA Presidents are related to King John of England. And there is a comment on the reddit site where you can read about this that they might all be freemasons as well (comment by Occultist). I did read a book written by a pastor of some protestant denomination. (sorry don't remember author) that put the number of freemasons who had been Presidents of the USA lower than 20.
Actually, reading the comments that followed the above referenced article were interesting because it seems it is easy to find people related to English royalty in the USA. Because a lot of people were in prison for refusing to follow the indoctrinations of the at the time prevalent Catholic church and when the option to run to the colonies came up, they quickly jumped on board a ship and sailed to the new world. Church history is full of information about rebellion.
I looked up the comparison between King and President. A president is elected by the people. Usually,
his power is controlled to some extent by people other than his relatives.
A king or queen inherits his right to rule by blood. He makes the rules even if he or she has a group of advisors the end decision is by the ruler.
In the USA presidents have rules to follow just like every other citizen. I'm not sure I know what the rules governing the president are. We hear about them in the news sometimes.
This article is a day late and very short. I don't even know if we are still following the 300-word rule. Valentines' day is gone. Presidents' Day sailed right by me. Walmart is putting out Easter candy on the same day the Valentines Day candy went on sale. I think I'm ignoring the calendar to often. Just happy to see we are getting sunshine all week.
HAPPY TRAILS//word count by WDC= 343

prompt:Groundhogs
This largest animal of the marmot family is much loved by humankind or not; depending on whether one of these vegetarian cat sized rodents are snacking from your garden or just roaming your fields.
In Pennsylvania there has been an open season on woodchucks for lots of years. Open season means a hunter can shoot them at any time of the year. There are reasons for this. They build extensive tunnels underground or under buildings. The tunnels have specialized burrows for sleeping areas, bathrooms, and nesting areas.
The animal is called by more than one name. Some of the most used are groundhog, woodchuck, and whistle pig. Many like to reside in mowed yards close to crops of lawn grass, dandelions, and goldenrod. The females give birth to 3 to 5 young at a time and can actually have more than one litter a year. The young leave the female parent within 2 months of birth to strike out on their own. Building their own tunnels. Unchecked they would soon over run the world if given a chance. Unfortunately, man is not the only predator. Dogs, fox, bear, coyote, any animal that will eat meat will predate on whistle pigs.
Whistle pigs is one of the other names tagged to them, because they give a loud shrill, warning whistle when they are startled by danger.
Lucky for them the animal has lots of fans who rescue them from a life lived in the wild and give them plush homes as weather predictors. In captivity woodchucks, the name I know them from, make excellent pals. playing with toys, being petted and eating a healthy vegetarian diet. Their grey undercoat with a banded overcoat of black and brown is brushed and pampered.
The Algonquin name for the animal was "wuchak" which seems to have traveled to English as woodchuck, Woodchucks don't particularly chunk wood they leave that to the beavers. I guess they do eat wood shavings and bark sometimes its part of their veggie diet.
There are actually many groundhogs in captivity being used as weather predicters. They have about a 37 per cent accuracy in spite of caretakers who say 100 per cent accuracy. One in Canada tops out at 50 percent accuracy. Yes, there are groundhog weather predicters in Canada and the United States. Philidelphia Phill must hire a good publicist.
"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck would chuck wood. Your guess should be approximate.
Just a few facts about our favorite February weather predicter from your local journalist. Have a good day.

Prompt: Rhyming February
How about: February lacks strawberries. or I'm merry in February. or February follows January. or February cold and airy. or February good for fairies.
February is a difficult word to tack on a rhyme. As a poet I don't always show it.
