Rejecting love doesn't mean it's not there.
My head is spinning, the breath fully knocked out of me as your offhand comment meant for effect sinks deeper.
I stand there. Dumb. Letting the waves of pain wash over me, trying to protect you from my emotions.
You carry on, insignificant chatter in my ringing ears as I feel myself torn between hatred and my need to fix you... so that you can carry on fixing me.

But you say you closed your heart, closed off any need for emotion. Now you don't seem to understand that we, we are in love, no matter how you say you closed your heart. You show me in the way you hold me, the way you support me, the way you know my deepest secrets and the way we whisper and laugh.

You don't seem to understand that this, this perfectly imperfect happiness, is love.
