an entry for the 2/2023 Twisted Tales contest.
The key to my heart on Valentine's day isn’t roses or candy. No, I go in for the stranger things. I like to be surprised. My husband isn’t very imaginative. That is why I am looking for a little more this holiday. I went on a dating site and found a very willing partner for an evening.

I rented a hotel room and put on my sexiest lingerie. I handcuffed myself to the bed and waited for my date. It was getting late. I heard a knock on the door. “Come in I am ready for you…”

A man in a black ski mask sauntered into the room he had a whip in one hand and a feather in the other. He stopped and hesitated at the foot of the bed when he saw me.

“Well, come on?”

He put down the feather and whip down near my ankles and ran from the room.

“Wait? What about…” I heard the hall door slam.

This wasn’t good. I was counting on him to unhandcuff me. The key was on the nightstand just out of my reach. My phone began to vibrate next to the key. “Google, answer the phone.”

“Hi, honey,” My husband’s voice came through the speaker. “I have a surprise for you. Can you meet me at a restaurant?”

“Uh, no, I am a little tied up Mac.”

“Really. I thought you were into surprises.”

“Yeah, except,” How do you tell your husband about a situation like this?

The hall door handle shook, and it opened. “Except you went on a website and set up a little ‘fun.’ and he ran out on you…” My husband’s voice came from the hall door.

He entered the room and wagged the ski mask at me. I blushed pink everywhere a girl could. "Okay, unlock the cuffs so we can go home."

He laughed, "We have a date. You rented the room for the night right?"

My eyes got really wide. "Of course!"

"Great," he said approaching the nightstand with the keys on it. He seemed to be reaching for the keys but at the last minute, his hand shifted to the TV remote. He scooped it up and put it in his pocket. "This hotel has room service doesn't it?" He went over to the phone and picked it up. He dialed the desk. "Yes, I have a room service order for room 214. We want a dozen chocolate-covered strawberries, a bottle of champagne, oh, and a bacon double cheeseburger with onion rings on the side." He hung up the phone.

"So you're thinking we're going to work up an appetite?" I asked.

He walked to the foot of the bed and picked up the whip and the feather. He looked at me purposefully and shifted them over on the bed far enough to sit down next to them. He pulled out the remote and flicked on the TV to ESPN.

"What? Wait? I thought we were..."

"I have made some revisions to tonight's agenda."
