Poem explores external perceptions versus hidden depths, questioning what others truly see

What do you see?

When you look at me what do you see?
You see a woman vibrant with energy
You see a woman lithe with athletic figure
You see a woman bronze tanned, vigour
One who transitions from lady to tomboy
Who jokes and laughs like one of the boys
You see someone who will drink a dram
But you don't see me or who I am

What you don't see is a keen intelligence
A person who has grown through resilience
You don't know how I expand my mind
In music, history, herbs, joy I find
You have no idea that I like to learn
The candle till the wee hours will burn
You don't know that I can see souls
That by myself I am whole
