My New Year Song As A Child
QUE SERA SERA

I was in Grade 4 , at nine years old when the community or our village that we live had guests from Spain, the three priests who visited our parish, then decided to go swimming with our Parish priests and some Elementary School Teachers.. It was a Saturday.

The teachers told me that I have a number in the short program at the beach front where my family live nearby.

I told Mama and Papa and they were told by the teachers too about my singing number. My two brothers were also a part of the program with a group of Boy Scouts singing Boy Scouts Song.

There was a breakfast buffet by the seaside and served with native dishes and plenty of fruits and boiled bananas.
No spoon and fork . Everyone must eat using hands.

I was wearing a polka dot three sisters red and white dress .

When it was my turn to sing
I went to the center area facing the audience.
I spoke a few words in Cebuano dialect :
" Malipayong Bag ong Tuig "
Meaning Happy New Year and made a bow.
Acapella...no guitar accompaniment.
Complete Silence. Then I belted to the highest notes starting the Chorus...

" Que sera sera
Whatever will be will be
The future's not ours to see
Que Sera Sera.."

I stopped for a while as there was a warm applause. Then I continued singing with a smile.

" When I was just a little girl.
I asked my mother what will
I be
Will I be pretty will I be rich
Here's what she said to me."

I sang again the Que Sera Sera and this time our three Spanish guests stood beside me and sang with me :

"Que Sera Sera
Whatever will be will be
The future's not ours to see
Que Sera Sera."
There was a very loud applause as
they returned to the place where they. were standing.

I continued my singing alone :

"When I grow up and fall in love
I ask my sweetheart what lies ahead
Will there be rainbows day after day
Here' s what my sweetheart said."

Then everyone sang with me :
"Que Sera Sera
Whatever will be will be
The future's not our to see
Que Sera Sera."

In complete silence again as I sang the last part :

" Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother what lies ahead
Will there be sunshine
Day after day
I tell them tenderly.

I continued singing alone. To the highest notes.

"Que Sera. Ser
Whatever will be will be
The future's not ours to see
Que Sera , Sera,
What Will be will be
What will be will be. "

I made a bow.
It was applauded loudly. The priests gave me a Holy Rosary and plenty of candies and chocolates. I said my Thank You as the teachers also gave me and my brothers plenty of food to eat.

It was an unforgettable New Year to me.

As I end this writing, I wish to great everyone in this awesome Community a
Happy New Year 2024.
