A Quiet January Night

On a quiet January night,
tranquility--
like the scent of new fallen snow--
embraces my soul,
and arouses the desire
to give thanks for the mercy
the All-Glorious Creator
has shown me.

On a quiet January night,
I open my prayer book,
turn to the prayers of praise and gratitude,
and intone a prayer of thanksgiving
for the blessing of recognizing
God's Most Ancient Name.
