My journal and blog
My name is Billie Gail Stanley-Lackey-Turknett. I am a Christian fiction writer and I write poetry. I am currently working on two books. One called My Brother's Keeper about three brothers back in the western days that struggle to make it through their own personal journey and helping their mother through her own struggles as well. Their dad is lost in the war and another man is plotting to steal their ranch and their mother.

The other about a lady that has been put through hell during her childhood and through her first marriage. She accepts Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior but has to learn to forgive her abusers fully and completely.I hope the book's title will remain "Forgiven" but, you know how some places are. They like to change the titles.

I am a member of The East Texas Writers Guild and I have been able to meet writers and read their work. I can't wait to be in that minority one day.

The song below is one of my all time favorites because of all the changes I have gone through with my sons. I love them heart and soul. Some changes were good and some weren't. I don't regret a second of it all though.
{link:<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/A6i1ywioIm0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>}

I am a Sinner saved by His mercy and grace. I am married to Bobby Turknett. I live in the tiny town of Slocum, TX. I have three sons. Marshall Lackey, Otis (Odie) Lackey III who is married to Courtney Bohannon-Lackey and they have one son, Kason, and one son on the way, Tucker. Then there is Cheyenne Lackey who is married to Danielle Willeford-Lackey and they have one daughter, Abbigail. I have two brothers (one passed away) Bobby and George Stanley II who is married to Rebekah Stanley and they have four kids together George Stanley III, Madison Stanley, Matthew Pendley, and Nate Stanley. My sister, Kimberley Stanley-Bailey lives in Michigan with her husband, Kevin Bailey. They have three daughters together. Jessica Stanley-Robbins, Robin Bailey, and Casey Bailey. I have a wonderful Mom, Susan Gail Lamb-Stanley-Lawhon and a great stepfather, Briggs (Skip) Lawhon.

I attend Evangelistic Temple in Palestine, TX and I have a ministry called Assisted Living and Nursing Home Readers program where I go into Assisted living centers and nursing homes and read to patients. I believe in paying it forward. These unique people did so much for us in this country and we owe them something for that.

I am a poet but, I have a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do. I am studying several books and watching a lot of youtube videos to get a grasp on what it takes to write right. I also joined this site to learn all I could about writing and it has been a struggle learning how to get through this site but, I am sure I'll get it all down soon.

Everyone here has been so helpful and I am grateful. I hope that I can manage to become half the writer some of the people here are. I will feel accomplished if I am able to do just that with my writing.

Thank you for reading and I hope you will read more in the future.

Prompt: Which fictional character have you fallen for?

The most recent one would Ragnar from the Vikings. He is sexy and honest. He loves with a fierce love and protects his family with all that he is and has. He is a born leader and a good provider. He doesn't have his nose in the air thinking he is better than others because he is now leader of his people. He has fiercely loyal wives.

Prompt: Talk about some common sense things you feel every person should know.

It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense.
Robert G. Ingersoll

I have common sense, but my family will tell you that I don't. he he
I like it when people show that they have common sense. Meaning they don't read while they drive or walk around with half your rear end sticking out of your jeans. don't put diesel in your gas run car. Don't cut your own hair. Things like that. I don't have a list of things because I am in a state of sleep deprivation and this will be the suckiest blog entry ever, but I am too tired to care. I am sorry.

Prompt: Make a list of inspirations. People, places, colors, events, activities. Do these inspire you to write, go to work, help you through life or make your day a good one? I would like to hear about them.

Bible, books, butterflies because they remind me of God, the color green because it has to be God's favorite color, Ireland, Scotland, America, My husband, the Lord Jesus Christ, Angels, and so much more.

They do inspire me to write. I write because I want to please the Lord. I want my work to reflect Him in every way. He is the reason I am who I am and even if I never get published it won't matter that much in the end because I wrote this book through Him. I can do nothing without Christ by my side. I thank Him everyday for my family, my life, and for giving me the things I need to live this life he has gave me.

Prompt: Write your own motivational and/or inspirational quote and/or speech.

"May this day find you forgiven and forgiving"
I made that up and say that to a lot of people. It is good to be forgiving and forgiven because our Heavely Father will forgive us of our sin if we are forgiving people. Un- forgiveness eats away at you until there is nothing left except bitterness and hate. Bitterness and hate destroy marriages, relationships, friendships, and anything else that was filled with love and mercy. Mercy comes to play in forgiveness as well. You show mercy on that person that did you wrong. Maybe they were in a circumstance that caused them to react in a way that was usually not their own. You show mercy like our Lord does and He will have mercy on you.

Today is National Vinyl *Vinyl* Day. We are all different ages so let's hear what was your first vinyl record? If you have never owned a vinyl record what do you know about them. Did someone in your family have vinyl records? How many sizes were there since they were first introduced? Do you ever see them in music stores?

We had vinyl records around the house and my parents use to play them and dance to them. My first one of my very own was a ZZ TOP record. I kept that thing for years. I use to go to the store and browse through all the records and bug my parents to buy them, but they rarely did. I remember that we had large ones and the small ones. Some with many songs on them and some with only one song on it. I notice that the market was different back then. An artist put all of their latest songs on the vinyl regardless of how big a hit it was. I may be wrong about this though. What they do today is write a bunch of songs and put them on a record then take the big ticket items (the ones that hit it big) and put one, maybe two, to a CD. That way all of their songs are being bought and it helps boost the number the song is on the radio or in the line up of the radio rather. Something like that or so I was told. I loved getting a hold of my own ZZ TOP record and it have several big hits on it. I listened to that record so much that I was banned from listening to it on certain days because my sister and I shared a room and she hated that record, but then I disliked some of her music as well. So, we had a deal. I miss the old days and I didn't know they had a vinyl record day or I would have celebrated by doing something special for it. Maybe bake cookies.

Today the actor/comedian Robin Williams passed away. What are your feelings about his work? How deeply are you affected by a celebrity death? Is there a particular celebrity whose passing would/has cause(d) significant grief?
If this prompt too depressing for you, tell me about your favorite celebrity, dead or alive.

I don't follow celebrities much. I get People magazine a little here and there to see what is going on. I really enjoyed Robin's latest show on TV called "The Crazies" or something like that. He was a terrific actor and fit right in with any role he took on. You know you have those actors that will be themselves in every movie, like Arnold Schwarzenegger, they act, but they are themselves acting a role. People like Robin actually became the person they were being paid to portray. That is what I liked best about him. His ability to become his character fully.

I feel terrible for his family. He just went through a divorce and now he has passed on. His children have to be in a horrid state of shock. He was still young considering his age and Hollywood finally started opening up more to older actors and actresses. Fifteen years ago you couldn't hardly find a job in Hollywood if you were over forty and you better look twenty even then.

I may be mistake on this, but I don't ever remember Robin being in a heavy sex scene. I liked him all the more for it though.

Day 631: August 11, 2014

Prompt: The of the day is Lily of the Valley. Write a poem, story, or anything about Lily of the Valley. Have fun.

"Mother, what do you plan on planting along the north side of the house? I don't see anything here."
Her mother continued to dig in the dir. but answered smoothly. "Oh, that would be Lily of the Valley darling. I just love them. They smell so nice and are such a beautiful color white. You will love them when they are fully grown."
"Aren't they poisonous mother?" Samantha asked her mother. She was very worried because of the children. They love to come in the garden and play among the flowers.
"They are, but the children won't be eating any flowers now will they?" Her mother answered with a smile and a little laugh.
"You never know about that. They are little and love to put things in their mouths. Maybe you should reconsider."
"No, I won't reconsider dear. I have wanted that plant in my garden for some time now, but I have just not bothered to come out here and rearrange the flowers. Don't worry so much Sam, things will be okay."
"Why do you like them so much?"
"We, your father and I, were married outside at a little church in Fairbanks. They had Lily of the Valley planted everywhere and they were in my hair. I had never laid eyes on them before, but when I saw them there that day I knew that they would be my favorite plant forever. They remind me of your father darling. When I see them my wedding comes into my field of vision and I have happy thoughts. Anything that reminds me of your father is worth having around. He was such a wonderful man. I hope you understand darling why I need to have them in my garden."
"I understand mom. I will now have a memory that is worth remembering when I see them as well."

Tell me about RAGE: Yours, someone else's, the concept of, or any interpretation of this that rocks your socks.

Fury, frenzy, an emotion that is normally brought on by the fight or fight response. If you were to hear that your loved one or friend was murdered in a horrific manner it may send you into a rage. You don't have control over your emotions and could kill someone in this place. It is horrible to lose your control like that. I have been sent into a rage before when my children were kidnapped. I could have killed my ex had I found him. He killed me once in a rage, but lucky for me I fell to the ground causing my body to react and I breathed again. I remember the last few seconds like it was yesterday. The fear that I was leaving my children behind with that monster. I divorced him right after that. It was too much to take. Watching someone in a fit of rage is terrifying. Being on the recieving end of that rage is even more terrifying.

Power corrupts, so does money, beauty, sex, freedom and health.
Prompt: Have you had any experiences with a person who has become morally or politically corrupt? Do people need to be persuaded like Shakespeare's Macbeth or does it happen on its own?

I believe that most people hang on to something like money, beauty, etc... because they are afraid of something.. They don't want to face their own mortality, not have the power after being molested or something like that or just because they are power hungry. They could be cruel because that gives them power and sex is a way of telling the world where to go and how to get there in a fast hurry. It all comes down to not wanting to be told what to do or be controlled.

I think it is a fight against God. He set His rules and wrote them down so they couldn't be confused or mistaken and these people want to tell God where to go or show Him something. It all makes them look real childish and immature. God will have the last say and he will Judge regardless of what these people do or say. We all balk at the idea that we have no control, but we don't need It with God in control. If we just allowed Him to take over our lives, we would see what a beautiful life we would have.

Prompt: Can you single out a perfect meal? What was your experience either making it or eating it? Were you alone, at a party or with someone memorable?

I have two. The first: It was Mother's day before my kids fully grew up and moved out of the house. They were mid-teens to high-teens and we all we decided to go out to eat for Mother's day. We went to El-Toro, a Mexican place we have here, and they sat us in a circle table and we laughed, joked, and talked about anything and everything. There were no arguments, cell phones, pagers, or outsiders that were raining on my happy day with my men. We spent the most enjoyable evening there that night. We all ate tons of some kind of chocolate dish they served up for us for Mother's day and everyone of us look back on that day as one of the best.

The second: My kids were little, maybe five, six, and seven. I was divorced and struggling to make ends meet. There was this place that had a buffet everyday all day. We loved going there, but it was on a rare occasion when we went. Mainly when I got paid and it had overtime on the check. We went one day and it had been a tough week for all of us because their dad was always pulling some kind of something and/or trying to kidnap the kids. So, we had one of those kinds of weeks. We all got our plates and I noticed the boys didn't get very much so, I told them to get a lot more because this was an all you can eat buffet and I wanted them full and it to be worth it. Well, we all got up to go get more food and we all decided on jello. We get back to the table and we were not having a great time like we normally did because I was about in tears because of the way the week had went. My sons started eating their jello like dogs off of their plate and I started to get on to them, but instead I joined them and we laughed like there was no tomorrow. I will forever have that day engrained in my memory and in my heart.

Interesting article
http://writersinthestorm.wordpress.com/2014/05/23/10-reasons-why-you-should-know...
I have never considered making my manuscript Ebook ready. I thought I'd have to pay someone to do it or it would be included in the publishing of the book. This article shows that you can do it yourself thus saving you a good deal of money. I am sure, for all of the tips, you have to buy his book, but I got a couple of freebies from reading his article. I think I'll start teaching myself how to make my own Ebook and see how it goes.

How about a little poetry or maybe a short story ..
What kind of character seems foreign to you... a homeless man, a zen monk, a suburban housewife, maybe a murderer
Whoever you choose.. that's the persona I would like you to adopt. Try writing in his or her voice.

Oh God! This is terrible. I'd never write about a zen monk so, I guess I am stuck with that one. Let me see...

There was a knock at the door and the monk, Gautama, swiftly answered it. "Mr. Summers, do come in out of the rain."
"Yes, thank you so much Mr. Gautama. I am sorry for bothering you at this time of night, but I seek your counsel."
"I am your brother and friend. Whatever your burden be my burden."
"What is sin brother? I need to know because I sin so much and I feel damned."
"Sin is ignorance. Nothing more. You are not damned. You need to meditate until enlightenment"

Be sure when you have several children come over for a few days that you have a system with your mate so, that you can handle the caous. We normally have this system, but my husband had to work the next day leaving me with all the children for yet another day. I was in dire straights. I love all of these children to death and they range from ages two to thirteen. They lose their ability to clean up after themselves when they come here and they are always so excitable. I know that I discovered a dozen more gray hair today after going through these past few days.
Get a system and stick to it. Releave your partner for, at least, thirty minutes after they've had a day like that. Keeps a marriage happy.

August 1, 2014 Prompt: It has often been said, “Ignorance is bliss,” and “What you don’t know won’t hurt you.” Do you agree with these statements? Why or why not?
I don't agree with ignorance being bliss. It may be for some, but think about it. You can be arrested and charged with a crime and even spend time incarcerated for that crime for something you chose to be ignorant of. Ignorant of all the facts.

Hunting is one of the major ones that I'd call to mind. There thousands upon thousands of illegal hunters out there that are illegal because they chose to snub the law or because they chose to be ignorant of the law by not staying up on the current laws of their area. They get fined at first, but fining can only go so far. Then some have to start spending some time in jail. I know of people that have (was related to them by marriage) snubbed the law and did what they wanted to do. It took a few years of surveillance and team work, but the law finally caught up with them and sent the whole family down at once. Many spending prison time.

This can be minor stuff to serious stuff when it comes to "Ignorance is bliss", but it can be serious stuff and I have just one question for you... Are you in a position to PAY the cost of the ignorance right now?

I have not had any real fun this summer yet. I wish I could say that I had, but I just can't. I can say that I had some good times, but what I consider down home good-times hasn't happened yet, but it is in the works. My anniversary is Monday so, since my husband has to work that day we plan on going out tomorrow evening or Sunday and I plan on riding some go-carts and that will be fun.

Prompt: Pick one of Papa's quotes and create your blog entry with that as your focal point. This can go in many directions depending on your choice of quote. If you have a favorite Hemingway book, please share that too!

I Googled this Papa and couldn't find anyone out there that matched any description I thought to put in so, I just took a leap of faith and settled on this site called http://www.quotegarden.com/fathers.html. I will try a quote or something from this stie and see how it goes.

A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty. ~Author Unknown

I had to go with this one because you always hear of these great grand fathers, uncles, aunts, paretns, etc... that are dying or dead and that is when every relative in the wood shed will come out hoping they were thought of in that will. What a treasure it has to be to have nothing and yet have everything in the world that any man or woman could ever hope for and money can't buy it.

Prompt: What are you afraid of? All of us at one point in our life has feared something, how did you handle it?
Please discuss a topic that you have not previously shared. Dig deep.
I have severe anxiety disorder. I really believe that people can see through me, see my thoughts, read my heart, or see my soul. I will walk out of places like interviews, department stores, Walmart, workout centers, appointments, and just about anything else you can imagine. I completely panic and run out in a blind panic searching for my car that is right there, but since I am in such a high state of panic I can't find it. I will do that now with people I can't face either. I feel inferior to some people for various reasons and when I see them I completely lose my marbles and have to get out of that particular place before I run into them and have to speak. Every time I have had to speak to them I sound like someone who is just learning the English language for the first time. I shudder and stammer. I make a complete fool of myself. I completely forget who they are and where I met them and I am stuck there with my husband not being able to introduce them all. I have even forgot my husbands name before.

Prompt: Describe the most ambitious DIY project you've ever taken on.

We live in a mobile home and we decided to rip the roof off of it and yes, I mean the tin roof that is rolled onto the house when it is made. We are doing this to put on a new shingled roof. My brother owns his own roofing company and he is helping us do this so, we have faith because my three sons work for him and they are all three there as well. Not only that, but we were replacing the entire siding as well. Well, they start rolling the roof off and are half way through and a vicious wind starts whipping through and finishes the job for us, but almost kills my boys in the process.

They start with the shingle roof and it is going well and I am in the kitchen cooking the men a large celibately meal and I set a lot of the freshly cooked meat over on top of a counter. Something kept nagging me to cover that meat up with something good and sturdy so, I did. I took some clear plastic, but thick and laid it over all the meat. It was hanging half way down to the floor. That is how much my conscious was bugging me to cover it up. Well, about twenty minutes after I finished covering up that food my son came through the roof right over that freshly cooked food. I would have been heartbroken if we would have lost all that meat. My son was okay, but he straddled a ceiling beam.

They fixed the ceiling after they all ate and then got back to work on the roof. They had that roof finished by that evening. The next day they replaced all of the siding on the house and then we got to paint it and that is where I came in. I got to go pick out the paint. I loved this job. I used a piece of the shingling for color and picked a nice light beige out of it and it turned out to be a beautiful color.

They did a great job on the house for it not to be a team of professionals, but there were professionals there. However there were NO siding professionals present and it turned out great as well and has lasted as long as well. My husband is always watching DYI so, he can learn something new and it works. He does all of his own repairs and home remodels. Our bathroom is next.

I don't have much of an idea. It seems to be (from other's blogs) forgetting in three parts or something like that. One guy wrote about forgiveness verses forgetting. I think I will go with that one to be safe.

I can forget anything unless there is a reason for me to fear for a return of that original fear or personal injury. If there is no reason to fear then I can forgive. I have a hard time forgiving for something when I don't feel like they deserve forgiving, but I have realized that it is not for me to decide whether that person is forgiven or not. It is completely up to God to forgive a person of their sins. It is good for us to forgive others in the sight of the Lord. He won't forgive you of your sins if you are unwilling to forgive others for their sins against you.

Prompt: I'm new to blogging. What pointers would you give me to become a good blogger.? Do you think pictures are important in a blog? Music? Links to information?

I think that blogging, at least, four times a week is best if not more. Pictures and music is great, but not necessary unless it is something that means a lot to you. It really depends on the set up of the bloggers frame as well. Like here at WDC you have to go through a process to get photos on here instead of dragging and dropping. If they allowed that then I'd do it. I'd also say to be honest with whom ever you are blogging to unless it is a secret and the person you are keeping it from is likely to read your blog. I don't have to worry about mine here at WDC, but I'd have to watch myself if I had one out there on my personal website.

In Aesop's fable about the crow and the pitcher, a thirsty bird happens upon a vessel of water, but when he tries to drink from it, he finds the water level out of his reach. Not strong enough to knock over the pitcher, the bird drops pebbles into it -- one at a time -- until the water level rises enough for him to drink his fill. What do you think can a crow actually do this or is it really a fable? Let's hear what your theory is...

It could be a fable, but I choose to believe that God's creatures are smarter than we give them credit for. Just look at all of the things a monkey can do or a trained bird can do. They must be able to recognize things on their own in the wild if they are able to be trained. Mice are the most popular amongst trainable animals. They will kill themselves trying to hit a button to get some kind of something from that exercise. Elephants grieve for their lost loved ones and constantly come back to their bones to mourn. They, along with hundreds of other animals, remember trails and routes to grazing lands, summering, or wintering homes. So, yes I do believe the bird could drop the pebbles into the water to get a drink.

July 24-Opinion Thursday: Are Bloggers Better Than US Spies?
No, because spies are trained in so many areas that bloggers arn't. Bloggers are normally normal everyday people blogging or writers. Now, writers have a way of getting to the truth of the matter so, that could mean we could be better than spies. It really just depends on the individual. Not all writers are better than spies and not all spies are better than bloggers.

Prompt: Write about the rainbows in your clouds.

They are a promise to me from my Father that He will never flood the world again. I hold on to that promise, however, I do worry about it for one reason and one reason only. He said He would never flood the world again, but He didn't say He would never destroy it again in another way or allow us to do it to ourselves. That is something I have to pray about. I worry about bringing children up in a world where disaster will happen soon, maybe their lifetime.
