My journal and blog
My name is Billie Gail Stanley-Lackey-Turknett. I am a Christian fiction writer and I write poetry. I am currently working on two books. One called My Brother's Keeper about three brothers back in the western days that struggle to make it through their own personal journey and helping their mother through her own struggles as well. Their dad is lost in the war and another man is plotting to steal their ranch and their mother.

The other about a lady that has been put through hell during her childhood and through her first marriage. She accepts Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior but has to learn to forgive her abusers fully and completely.I hope the book's title will remain "Forgiven" but, you know how some places are. They like to change the titles.

I am a member of The East Texas Writers Guild and I have been able to meet writers and read their work. I can't wait to be in that minority one day.

The song below is one of my all time favorites because of all the changes I have gone through with my sons. I love them heart and soul. Some changes were good and some weren't. I don't regret a second of it all though.
{link:<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/A6i1ywioIm0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>}

I am a Sinner saved by His mercy and grace. I am married to Bobby Turknett. I live in the tiny town of Slocum, TX. I have three sons. Marshall Lackey, Otis (Odie) Lackey III who is married to Courtney Bohannon-Lackey and they have one son, Kason, and one son on the way, Tucker. Then there is Cheyenne Lackey who is married to Danielle Willeford-Lackey and they have one daughter, Abbigail. I have two brothers (one passed away) Bobby and George Stanley II who is married to Rebekah Stanley and they have four kids together George Stanley III, Madison Stanley, Matthew Pendley, and Nate Stanley. My sister, Kimberley Stanley-Bailey lives in Michigan with her husband, Kevin Bailey. They have three daughters together. Jessica Stanley-Robbins, Robin Bailey, and Casey Bailey. I have a wonderful Mom, Susan Gail Lamb-Stanley-Lawhon and a great stepfather, Briggs (Skip) Lawhon.

I attend Evangelistic Temple in Palestine, TX and I have a ministry called Assisted Living and Nursing Home Readers program where I go into Assisted living centers and nursing homes and read to patients. I believe in paying it forward. These unique people did so much for us in this country and we owe them something for that.

I am a poet but, I have a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do. I am studying several books and watching a lot of youtube videos to get a grasp on what it takes to write right. I also joined this site to learn all I could about writing and it has been a struggle learning how to get through this site but, I am sure I'll get it all down soon.

Everyone here has been so helpful and I am grateful. I hope that I can manage to become half the writer some of the people here are. I will feel accomplished if I am able to do just that with my writing.

Thank you for reading and I hope you will read more in the future.

Prompt: A catch-22 is described as a paradoxical situation from which an individual cannot escape because of contradictory rules. For example: A company won't hire you because you have no experience, but you can't get any experience because the company won't hire you. What is the biggest catch-22 you've ever witnessed?

In order to get your drivers license you need your birth certificate, but to get a copy of your birth certificate you need to show your drivers license?

Prompt: Have you ever heard a news item or fun factoid that you thought couldn't possibly be true. For example: "No black actress has been nominated for a Leading Actress in a Drama Series Primetime Emmy in 18 years. That's nearly two decades" I thought to myself, this cannot be true. Blog about any or all of this.

One of the funniest factoid I have heard is...Dolly Parton once entered anonymously into a "Dolly Parton lookalike contest", but lost to a drag queen.

PROMPT: What do you like to find in a blog prompt? Do you prefer open-ended or very specific prompts? Is there a particular type or element of a prompt that you dislike? Do you have a prompt that you think would be great? Include it and I'll see what I can do to make that happen.

I like a mix of prompts. I like some open ended and some specific. It gets my juices to flowing when I have a variety. Some team challenges would be nice. Like 30 day bloggers is doing a month long camping prompt. I missed out on my first few days because of my schedule, so I didn't do it this month. I don't like prompts where I have to choose someone's blog and tell why I like their better than anyone else's because I don't like to upset people if theirs isn't chosen by anyone.
I have a couple of prompts I think everyone would like.
What are you most terrified of and why?
What is the most dangerous thing you've ever done and why?
I think those two could open some lines of communication in a heart beat, but that is just my humble opinion. BTW I love the prompts I get from Blog City. You are doing a great job.

Prompt: Write a story, poem, or lyrics about The Enchanted Wheelbarrow.

The enchanted wheelbarrow rolled from place to place picking up people's most treasured items and stored it in its hull of love. It knew just what to do with the items. It was to take them to the very people that would treasure them above all else and fall in love with the person who the items had belonged to. The wheelbarrow knew all about love and brought people together that would likely never have met otherwise. Because of its oddness it knew how the uniqueness of things brought people together more than any other thing because of its own uniqueness. It has two handles, one wheel, and one hull. Who would have thought to make a contraption like that and create something to beautiful and something that would be used so lovingly to create gardens and other beautiful things like that.
(I am not in my right mind tonight. I am worried sick for my two week old grandbaby that has blood in his bowel movements. I can't think. I am sorry)

Prompt: Tomorrow is the world wide premier of season eight of the popular BBC drama Doctor Who. In the show, an ancient alien travels through time and space with human companions. If you were given the opportunity to travel through time and space, would you?

Yes, I would very much like to travel through time. After reading the Outlander series I'd like to travel back to the seventeenth century Scotland and live amongst the people there. I find the fascinating even though it was a dangerous time. I don't know what I'd do about my laptop and Kindle though. I am a little attached to them. Only thing about that era is the wars and such that were brutal and me having three sons and a husband. I'd not like to lose them to the savage battles. It was more man on man though instead of machines like they have today and bombs that blow people up. I'd have to learn as much as I possibly could about medicinal herbs before going though because you could die of just about anything then because they lacked modern medicine. To walk the halls of castles and Lairds would be something though. I could visit them now, but I would like to see them living and breathing people in all their glory.

Prompt: Some people are embarrassed by_being old enough to be a grandma___________ but I'm not because___I had empty nest syndrome really bad when all my sons left home. I loved being a mom and all it entails. I love being a grandma just as much. I get to do some of the same things with my grand children that I did with my children and it warms my heart. God should have made us grandparents first. It is a wonderful thing to be_________.

Your younger self is about to be offered your first job. What would you tell yourself knowing what you know now?

Pay attention to everything and remember it. It will come in handy once you decide to level up. Don't make friends with the gossipers and try to get the manager and assitant manager to respect you and your work. They will level you up faster if they do. When you go to college, and you will go this time around, be sure to work, but don't work so much that you can't do your studies.

Prompt: You hear a noise coming from your book shelf. Your books are talking to each other. Which books are they? What are they saying?

It is the Outlander series and they are catching each other up on the goings on in each book. Telling what the future holds and what happened in the past. I love that series and hated when the last one was read. I felt like I was leaving home when I finished them. I wanted them to keep going. Maybe there will be another one. Who knows.

Prompt: Pearls. Anything you want to write about pearls. Serious or funny.

You know that bible scripture, Matthew 7:6? "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. Well, I didn't quite grasp that until I was a little older (In my late twenties). I had the jist of it, but not the pearls to swine business. I raised pigs and had never heard them called "swine" before. I should have heard it and maybe I did, but I just don't know. I just didn't understand the verse and was too embarrassed to ask because everyone seemed to understand it. I finally overheard a conversation between two men one day talking about their pigs and one called them swine and one called them pigs and I finally understood. You guys are the first to know about my ignorance of that situation.

August was named after Augustus Caesar in 8 BCE. In Latin the names are Augustus mensis (Month of Augustus) and sextilis mensis (Sixth Month). The Ango-Saxons called August Weod Monath (Weed Month). Write a story or poem using one or all of these name for August. Have Fun.

I know Latin and didn't even know it. All of the months are Latin in some form. I looked it up when I saw our prompt. I don't really think I could write a poem tonight. I have my grandson and I am barely able to get on here and write what I am writing. I will just post what I found out about August and be done with it. I wish I had more time, but I don't. I am sorry.

Sextilis had 30 days, until Numa when it had 29 days, until Julius when it became 31 days long.

Augustus Caesar clarified and completed the calendar reform of Julius Caesar. In the process, he also renamed this month after himself.

Write about something that is true at first light, false by noon.

How about love? Love is so blind and I mean that in the truest form. When you meet that someone special you are aware of their scent, body language, mannerisms, and so much more. You want to believe the best about them so, you believe just about anything they tell you and even when something doesn't ring true you persuade yourself that you just misunderstood that situation or thing. Not even their morning breath bothers you.

Give it a year though and that is when you see the true person you fell in love with. They say (professionals and myself) that it takes a year to get to know someone, the true someone you fell in love with. They start to wear on you and you start to becoming frustrated with the little things like leaving their socks laying around everywhere or how they don't rinse their dish before putting it in the dishwasher. Then the big things start to show like whether they can actually keep a job longer than six months or so.

Yes, love is like that. Being true at first light and false by noon. That is why it is good to date for a long time and see how the other person lives their daily life. Have a long engagement or live together for a while before tying the knot. I should not be saying living together though. Not being a Christian and all, but that is what I did for that very reason. I had kids to think about. I needed to know how my boyfriend would be able to handle three teenagers in a year. His family wasn't pleased about it, but I refused to marry him unless we could live together for a year. It all worked out. We have been together fourteen years and there is no sign of us tiring of the other. Be careful who you marry. You have to live with that decision for the rest of your life. Even divorce doesn't erase a marriage. It just does away with it, but the memories are still there and always will be.

Prompt: The First Time...

The first time I smoked I must have been ten years old and was buying them for myself at twelve. My parents said if I could work and buy them for myself then I could smoke. This was back before smoking was bad for you. I gained instant friends when I started smoking. I realize now it was for my cigarettes and not for me, but at the time I was cool and the popular kid among kids. I regret that decision today. I don't smoke now, but I did for over twenty five years. I don't have any breathing problems now due to smoking, but at the time I quit, I had them. I couldn't walk very far without huffing and puffing. I couldn't run around with my grandchildren because of the soot in my lungs had me all gunked up. I was miserable and I stunk to high heaven with cigarette smoke and ash. I realize now how bad I smelled because I can smell smokers easily now. They stink and if you smoke and read this, I am sorry, but cigarette smoke really stinks on someone. It smells like an ashtray. I love the smell of a freshly lit cigarette even today and I WANT to smoke. I still crave it and it has been a long time since I quit. I will always crave them. It is just a fact and I hate it. My advice to everyone is to NEVER START SMOKING!

How did you find WDC and how do you like it here? How Did you find PDG and how do you like it so far?

I was looking online for a group or website that offered help to new writers and lessons. WDC popped up and I checked it out and I have been here ever since.

What I like best is the ability to review and be reviewed. I needed my work looked at by others and advice. I knew I had a long way to go and a short time to get there and this site has proved invaluable to me.

I had seen PDG here and there around the site, but I was invited to be a member and I have not regretted joining in and becoming active in the group. I am learning a lot from the members and having fun.

Prompt: The last time I ...

The last time I drank anything alcoholic I was sick and I mean really sick. I have never been a drinker because I don't like the taste of it and because I have seen the effects of alcohol on families in this world. Anyway, I am on a lot of medication and knew better than to drink alcohol, but it was a special occasion and so I drank a tiny bit of Champaign. It didn't set well with me when I was drinking it, but I didn't want to be antisocial or be a bummer at the get together.

When I went home I was feeling fine, but sometime in the middle of the night I began being sick and it lasted all night and most of the next day. I have swore off alcohol ever since. It just doesn't like me nor I it.

Write a bad poem.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
when he realized he would never be tall.
He rolled on the ground moaning
and complaining all the while groaning.

What he would give for a few more inches
that would make him a knight or a finches.
But alas he would never be strong and stout
he would forever be a cast out.

Hi, you were hired by Yelp, to write a restaurant review about an amazing restaurant in your city. Give us some examples of things you liked and disliked in your review. Convince us this is the place to go.

El Toro is a great Mexican food restaurant with authentic Mexican food recipes and dishes. The décor is genuinely Mexican as is the music. They have American dishes as well, but their Mexican food dishes are to die for. There is a favorite of mine called El Dorado. It is a chicken breast smothered in wine sauce and shrimp. It come with genuine Mexican rice and beans. The chips and dip put their competitors to shame. They have a traditional tomato dip, but they have this guacamole dip that is handmade and is something you will not forget for some time to come.
