Stumped & Procrastinating

Today's OctPrep has me stumped and while I'm trying unsuccessfully to figure out a story to write, I am piddling here on WDC...dodging those pesky zombies and TRYING to stay out of trouble.

I've got some fall projects around the apartment I plan on tackline this weekend. The first huge project is to remove every single thing from our walk in closet. I'm almost certain there is a dead mouse in there....something is causing an odor...even if hubby claims he can't smell anything. Once the closet is completely empty, I plan to disinfect it. I bought gallon of vinegar on sale and that's a great way to put it to good use! Once everything is wiped down and mopped out...THEN I plan to go through each and every bag, box or whatever...and do some trips to the dumpster.

I'm fairly sure our 6 foot Christmas tree I bought the first year we moved here is beyond saving. Mice ate stuff off the branches, at the wires, and made a nest in the box. Hubby drug home a huge China cabinet this last summer, as payment for some work he did, and now we don't have room for the tree anyway. I'd much rather have the china cabinet *BigSmile*

My comforters and blankets are ify...I did order four new warm blankets, which I got on CLEARANCE for only $6.99 each with FREE shipping cos I also had a few other items which put the total at about $80. That sounds like a LOT but I got cleaning supplies, a set of queen sheets, (fall design) oh and did I mention the blankets were all full sized. I'm hoping to pick up a few more next month for the same sale price so the dogs will each have their OWN blanket and not have to share ours. (yeah, right)

Once my closet is nice and clean and disinfected and I have gotten rid of stuff we don't need, I will put things back in a newly organized way with the hope of having left over space to put a small bookcase which will serve as a backup pantry for non-perishable items. Dunno about ya'll, but I've been reading and hearing an awful lot of predictions and warnings that we are in for a harsh winter. Even the Farmer's Almanac says it, and they are usually fairly accurate. It doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Our first year we moved to Houston, we had that huge ICE storm. The city was down for days....transportation came to a stop. We were living in an extended stay motel at the time and their water pipes burst and water got into the fire alarm system and for 5 whole days....the fire alarm sounded. By law, they could NOT turn if off...safety codes....and we had no water, and that blasted alarm shrieking non-stop for five days....did I mention when the fire alarm goes off, the outside lights blink....so it felt like a disco lol We had to walk several blocks to a Mc Donalds and they were generous enough to allow folks to use their OUTSIDE water spicket to fill containers up with water.

So, after that experience, I'm with a little extra precaution am going to make sure we have at least two weeks of emergency items stored in the closet. It will all get used if not during an emergency, then though the winter...so Its not like I'm wasting money or anything. I do have to be careful with what I stock, because we DO tend to get MICE. Thankfully, out new kitty Pumpkin has already proven to be an excellent huntress and has killed three of them! Honestly, I was not happy when Hubby brought another mouth home to feed...but she has more than proven she can pull her weight and earn her keep.

Additionally, my living room needs some fall prep. Normally when the weather starts to turn I move my L shaped sofa to sit in front of the one large window. I place a towel along the window sill and that along with the sofa helps to block much of the cold air that seeps in. I also take down my lace curtains and hang my heaver, darker curtains. My sofa is a dark olive green (not something I picked out, but it was given to us) and my fall curtains are a dark wheat color that I tied back with green sashes. I'm working on crocheting some throw pillows but, the dogs and cat don't seem to LIKE pillows on THEIR sofa...and the pillows tend to end up on the floor more than on the sofa. So, I'm not working on them as fast as I could.

Well, time to actually get busy doing everything I just wrote about! Dinner tonight is a no brainer. I have a huge pork roast in the crockpot and it has been cooking since about midnight last night. I'll debone it and we can get about 5 meals from it. Tonight, I'll take a portion of the meat, add it back into the crockpot with all the juices and add some beans and let that cook on low all night....will be a meal for later in the week. Tonight, I'll take a portion of the meat, add a bag of frozen mixed veggies, some garlic, black pepper, onion, and soy sauce and simmer that until tender and serve it with some rice noodles and fresh radishes and baby carrots. Super simple and lazy! *Rolling* *RollingPin*
