For Grace (Prompt for 5/23/14)
I stood at Emily’s apartment knocking on it not knowing what I could say that would change her mind.

After about a minute of knocking my girlfriend Emily answered the door, "I don't want to talk about it any more”, she said as if her mind was made up.

But I know she didn’t want to go through with it. She just wasn’t ready. But she can’t make this decision without at lest hearing me out. She owes me that.

“We have to talk about it”. By now I was in the living room hoping for one last chance to change her mind. If only we waited like God told us.

“There’s nothing to talk about. I’ve scheduler the appointment for tomorrow”, she said. I could see she was starting to cry. I saw in her heart that she didn’t want to do it.

“I’m not going to let you do it. You can’t. Its murder”, I said hoping it will change her mine.

“Noah spear me your righteous beliefs” I could see that approach wasn’t helping.

“Fine! Then do it for Grace”

“You gone and name it already” her voice seemed worried.

“Not “it”, her…her name is Grace”, I said in a loving voice.

“You really want to keep her. Don’t you?”

“Yes. If I could do instead of you, I would” I wasn’t lying.

“I promise you I’ll support you all the way. I love your Emily. I want to marry you. I want all three of us to be a family”.

I bend down on one knee pulling a ring out of my pocket. I could see Emily’s smile surfacing. .

“Will you marry me …”

Before I could finish she hug me and said “Yes. Yes I’ll marry you. That’s all I ever wanted”
