The Rescue
Taking the wand in his hand he focused his vision on the doorknob before him. He needed to get this to work. He needed to work his magic and have it let him cross over the threshold. He needed to get to Arianna, the sooner the better.

Dragging a calming breath in it rattled with nerves each fighting an internal battle he needed to win. A few more breaths and he found himself loosen. The nerves calmed and molten heat gathered in his core. Focused energy and wand at the ready, he flicked his wrist and watched the sparks fly toward the knob. He twisted his lips and let the words whisper out of his mouth. The incantation rose and swirled above him. He narrowed his eyes on his target and gave another flick toward the doorknob. It rattled on the latch. Bursting open at last, it knocked back against the wall with a loud clamour.

He took a fighting stance, at the ready, but nothing was there. He waited a moment, staring into the darkness for any sign of disturbance. There was nothing. The silence was palatable.

Shifting his wand, he held in upright as he whispered another incantation the brought a glowing blue luminescence onto the tip of his wand. The shadows scattered before him, running to hide.

Slowly, with the utmost care, he moved forward as his eyes adjusted to the dimness. Before him, slumped in a chair, was Arianna. He fought the urge to run towards her. Instead he moved around the room looking for any sign of booby traps. Again there was nothing. He moved to her and released her bonds before he gathered into his arms and carried her back out of the confining room.
