You always knew how to fly [366]
You always knew how to fly

         Stephen Hawking (1942-2018)

You contemplate mysteries of a circle,
spiral past decimals: point-one-four-one-five-nine,
random numbers that follow always a surprise.
You dream you are Stephen Hawking,
hobbling on a cane, new to Cambridge,
young and alive.
Determination propels you to an uncertain future,
your brain exploding like a nova,
reaching beyond known limits
to the Universe's edge.
Now those you've left behind earth-bound
lament as they see you sitting,
the Stairway of Heaven looming,
no chair lift in sight.
But they never understood you.
You always knew how to fly.
