Mini-review: A very nice short piece of wisdom. I did laugh when I read "knowing both your aperture and your shutter speed..." because I immediate thought of knowing when to keep your mouth (aperture) shut and when to skedaddle out of there! I won't rate it because it's categorized as an philosophical essay and I don't know anything about that! I did like it a lot. *Heart* You should read it for yourself.

Prompt: What is the secret of life?

The Living Rocks Speak

"We are aware. Even as clunky old rockfall from the mountains we're aware, even as the dullness of the fall wears off and we accept our new surroundings until water carries us off.

Our voice is strong when young but somewhat boring. We all sound alike; we all say the same things. 'How did I get here.' 'Why me.' But water wears and ice fills cracks and those green things that grow among us cleave us apart. We begin to understand that time and life itself have different meanings to the short lived things that run and nest among us and even the long lived tree in time losses its bark. We see generations come and go as we slowly grow smaller ourselves. Some burst into a thousand children over time. We accept our lot. Diminished we become smaller, wiser, polished. We no longer look like we did! Good riddance! We become smooth stones making peace with the water, glistening as we become a gem, a crystal picked up by a wayfarer seeking our wisdom. But they must listen closely! Our voice becomes softer with age, so soft you can barely hear us except when in a torrent of rain we tumble and tinkle.

In time we waste away to gravel, grit, then sand, to be washed away to the Great Waters. We lie in beds to sleep until we rise again, a mountain reaching upwards toward the stars.

And once again we are aware of our place in the Universe. And that is enough."

Personally? To grow spiritually. To learn whatever lesson we must least whether our life is long or short. We humans are Spiritual Beings who return from whence we came.
