The Man in the Gap

He stands in the gap
When others fall
He is that chap
They can always call

Speaking when the speaker's lost
Leading when the leader's gone
Being there whatever the cost
He keeps us striving on

When we fail to heed our call
He fills the space in our ranks
The man in the gap of the wall
Does not do it for our thanks

But he prays for the day
When others take his place
Until then he will stay
Longing to be replaced

This service is not his mission
Yet he will see it through
The man in the gap's position
Should be taken by YOU
