Literally, A Last Second Change
Literally, A Last Second Change

My nightmare of a yesterday started before I even got to work. On the way there, I got into a major detour situation because of an accident on the last Saturday before Christmas. It didn’t make me late for work. But I only got there with about a minute to spare. I would have been late getting to my post by about five minutes if I was going to be going there.

Only I didn’t go there. Just as I was getting to what I call the main gate, I got a call from my Site Supervisor. When I got into the main gate, I was told to go to my old post for the first four hours. Then go to my regular post for the last four hours. That’s right, another split shift.

That has been happening a lot lately. And it shouldn’t be. After all, it’s that time of year where I work. There isn’t supposed to be any sick leave or Paid Time Off aka vacation pay. Yet everyone who works there can do it except for me. Even if it’s at the last second like it was yesterday.

Why am I ranting and raving about what happened to me at work yesterday? It’s because I didn’t get any writing done on the second episode for my Water Wars scriptwriting project. Not even one single sentence for this Scene Outline. I was going to try to write at least some of it when I got to my regular post. Even one Act aka thirty-five single sentences would have been better than none. But that didn’t happen.

My relief at my old post was five minutes late. By the time I got to my regular post, I was about ten minutes late. And of course, it was all my fault. Not the one who relieved me, but me. I’m not surprised about that. I get blamed for anything that goes wrong there. Even if it’s not my shift or day that I’m working. But as a result of all that, I didn’t feel like writing.

Today, it’s not a surprise. I know that I’m going to be working another split shift. So, I’m going to try to get some writing done. Hopefully, the second half of episode two for this project. But I’m not going to count on that until it happens. After all, it all depends on how busy it gets at work today. If it’s like the last few Sundays that I have had to work there, I have been too busy to get any writing done. And since this is the last Sunday and weekend before Christmas, it’s a very good probability that it will be extremely busy all day today at work.
