A lonely girl gazes through a window in a great house.

Security

A house of stone,
secure and safe,
and she alone,
a rescued waif,
forever drawn
to gaze beyond
the spreading lawn
and sparkling pond,
to woods afar,
horizons deep,
and evening star,
her dreams to keep;
the window now
a lonely gift,
reminder how
the deepened rift
between her fear
and coddled life
is payment drear
for ended strife.
