A note of notes.
Unimportant Announcement

I've just completed part of a task that I bumped into during my trudge through Game of Thrones. This was to review five items set as the Mystery genre. Not too difficult and I've been meaning to have a look at what people produce for it because I'd like to have a go myself. And it's quite possible that I learned a lot.

Now we come to the second part of the task. I'm supposed to "share my enjoyment" by posting on the Newsfeed. And my first question is, "Share what?" The obvious answer is my enjoyment of the Mystery reviews. Well, I've already done that in the first paragraph. But then it says, "Let WDC know how you feel about the game." Did they mean that that's what I'm supposed to be enjoying and so sharing? Or is the first bit totally separate and I can choose how I inform the membership of my feelings regarding GoT? Natural inclination would be to write my feelings on that score in a blog post and so not annoy everyone in sight. But the two questions seem so entwined that I might as well continue, now that I've started here anyway.

The whole incident is demonstrative of my feelings regarding GoT. It's too complicated and insufficiently explained in design and questions. Very pretty, I grant you, but sparse in accurate and definite instructions. Having said which, it is very flexible in that much depends on what you make of it. There is a lot of choice (I didn't have to do the task in point after all - but it's good for the team). I started out determined to use the thing to increase my short story production. And, for a while, I did. But there are other things that earn the team more and I realised that I should be doing more in that line. And that's why I'm doing these reviews till they come out of my ears, annoy you with Newsfeed posts, and generally make a nuisance of myself.

So, in summary, GoT is a curate's egg. Meaning it's a mixture. And that's all I'm saying.

Hmmm...

Life is a curate's egg...

I just learned a new expression...

ruwth - The actual answer (it comes from a cartoon in Punch magazine in late Victorian times) is "Good in parts."

Beholden - Actually, I did take the time to google the expression and its origins and found this:

The phrase comes from a cartoon in the British magazine Punch in 1895, in which a nervous young curate (= priest) is having breakfast with a bishop. The bishop says 'I'm afraid you've got a bad egg there' and the curate, not wanting to upset the bishop, replies, 'Oh no, my Lord! … Parts of it are excellent!

It made me laugh...

I've been thinking again. Sorry.
I've just refused to edit an item in my portfolio. What's done is dung, I say.

Editing feels like homework: if you don't make yourself do it, you'll fail.
W.D.Wilcox - It's a joke, WD - I probably read through my stuff more frequently than you do. *Wink*
Ned
Sometimes, I want to edit where edits suggest themselves, but I carefully weigh the bother of doing so against the faint likelihood that anyone will ever actually read the item and decide to leave it as is.

There was a newspaper in the UK - I think it was The Guardian - who for years had a cartoon in their weekend magazine based on this type of thing. There were two versions: Lost Consonants and Vowel Movements. I've no idea how he managed to keep it up - I would have run out of steam in no time.
Dave Ryan - I always call it The Grauniad because of its lousy proof reading. But you're right about the difficulty of keeping going with something like that. That's why I numbered it 1 without any promises of a number 2. *Wink*
Ned
I just imagine those who regularly misspell squinting at the screen and saying "I don't get it". I think of Penelope Keith in The Good Life - "I know it's funny, but please tell me why".

Bragging Rights to Door # 5

That's the way it goes, Big Nose, I have completed all the tasks and it's now my duty to brag about it on the Newsfeed (as if you care). Never mind, there's nothing to stop you cheering for me, and you should certainly cheer for House Martell, of which I am a humble member. And that's about it until they force me out here again to annoy you with some other achievement.

Oh and don't forget - this announcement is brought to you by courtesy of "Game of Thrones

I've been writing a lot of short stories for GoT and, so far, not said a word about them oin the Newsfeed. They do get rather hidden in my Those Who Live in Grass Houses book, so I accept that they don't get a lot of reads. But this one today I kinda like (bit of a lie - I've only just finished it so I actually love it). If you want to give it a read, there it is. Throw me a comment if you like.

R.E. Pete - And those who live in grass houses should not stow thrones.
I'll have to stop by and read this one too! I really enjoyed reading "Car the other day. *Cool*

Early thoughts...
Okay, enough with the bragging. Today, most of us will reach the 98 day mark for our Visiting WDC run. Yes, I will as well. But how many of us will reach that score today on any of the other 7-day badges?

I have, for the Post in a Forum one. But I was a little late in forcing myself to do the other two, so I'll never catch up with those.

Thinking about Damon's post today about the 100 streak, it's all getting a bit ridiculous, isn't it? (And that's my Post to the Newsfeed done for today)

THANKFUL SONALI 17 WDC YEARS! - That's a good name for them - streak badges. "7-day badges" might be a bit confusing in that that someone could ask, "There are seven of them?"
s
Beholden - Streak badges?

s - I guess someone had to go there...
