We had a look at Lesson 7 - Putting It All Together homework.

Father has got it; his writing has relaxed enough to be quite good. Mum has also got it, but she was the one I was least worried about, to be honest. Daughter still has a habit of using the same sentence structure a lot, and I had to remind her how to use forms of address in direct speech (where the commas go), but the writing was a huge improvement.

So, Lesson 8 - Worldbuilding. They'd watched the videos together (which I thought was actually sweet) and even talked about them afterwards.

The lesson itself was very short because the videos did everything I had hoped for. They asked some great questions ("What if the world is our world?" My answer: "Does a reader in Bumsnot, Illinois know anything about Goolwa, South Australia?") and we did the homework there and then - write a scene where the world is described without info-dumping anything. We looked at it, and the info-dumping was tough for all of them not to do. So, homework is to try again.

Then comes Lesson 9 - Character Construction!

This has been interesting.
