I have not really made a secret of my feelings on self-publishing, though I refuse to articulate them any longer because the abuse is really not worth it.

However, I don't think I've spoken about hybrid publishing. This is when you "share" the cost of publishing with a "publisher." In self-publishing, you know what you are getting, what moneys are required up front, and everything is in your hands. You are in charge. Great, No nasty surprises.

In hybrid publishing, you share the cost. Then you get another bill for something else. Then another. Then another. This sharing seems to be a lot of money from you and, in the end, the hybrid publishers give very little back. Sure, you might have a book, but it is costing you far more than self-publishing would have.

Worst, the majority (not all, but the majority) of hybrid publishers have been exposed as scams.

Now comes the latest hybrid scheme - paying to give an interview.

I've given 4 radio interviews - 2 on local FM radio, one on statewide radio, one on the national broadcaster (ABC). Cost? Petrol to get to the studio.

But some are demanding more than this, and it is not coming from the radio stations.

Here's the latest article from Writer Beware:

Think twice before paying for an interview.

And be careful out there.
