Equivalence Death Spiral
“All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.”
                                                                     ― Edmund Burke

It's easy to dismiss all politics and all politicians as corrupt and self-serving:

"They're all the same, why bother?"

There is some truth to this argument, but it's mostly an excuse for our own lazy self-interest:

"Why should I stick my neck out by taking sides?"

There are degrees of difference, however, even within the larger categories of good and evil. I'd much rather endure a Bush league president than suffer under a smirking moral degenerate. And I'd prefer an idealistic leader with perfect integrity, but I can support a compromising pragmatist with good intentions.

I'm not saying that all republicans are moral degenerates, or even that all republicans tolerate degenerates, but there's a strong correlation between being a republican and tolerating racism, fraud, and sexual abuse.

Neither am I saying that all democrats are idealists, or even that all democrats support idealists, but there's a strong correlation between idealism and being a democrat.

What path will you take? Forward to a better future, or back to the dark ages of might makes right? How would you like to be remembered? As someone who supported the imperfect good, or as someone who tolerated casual evil?

Today more than ever, there is a real choice. And doing nothing means death for democracy
