Depth Of A Star/Pointed Ears

the last night a cat walked
down that street
seeing the face of a
cowjaw in a frigid pasture
somewhere in Ohio
she was black Angora

now the cat is
somewhere south
where it is warmer
as he bleeds a
sympathetic eye
into the steam of work

so the cat walked straight
into a thread of odors
burned orange on his back
spinning into black

why, it could be a holiday
for animals
a child’s waving hand looking
awesome as she clutches
a marathon of candy bars
waving furiously only to
Shalomar the cat
