Once Upon A Shadow, Deep Inside A Dream

To Love

A horseshoe turned upside down for luck,
a wish for love.
My heart and mind are stuck,
in a place of helpless love.

Your smile lights up my life,
so full of kindness and trust.
Pain stabs me like a knife,
and have you I must.

God is who you love and serve,
as do I.
God gives us the nerve,
to give in and try.

Your sister is in your heart,
she is also in mine.
Family love is the start,
of a very long line.

A friendly guy you are,
and that shows me,
that you are, by far,
the unlocking key.

But you yourself is what I love,
the real you inside,
which God gave from above,
for you to show, not hide.

NOTE: This poem was written by me for a friend who was, obviously, smitten with a young man for a very long time. She requested I write her a poem and I did. It's very hard to write someone else's feelings. I apologize if this poem is a little sappy...people in love can almost never find the proper words anyway. Thanks for your time.
