Happy Birthday to Me!
Today is my birthday!!!!!!!!!! I am 22 years old. This year I did things a little different. Ever since I can remember, someone else has always put my birthday plans together. I got to pick out the cake and ice cream and dinner of course. But what else happened whether it was a surprise party, a party with friends, or just family, was completely put together by others. It was the whole "It's your birthday, so let someone else take of it and give a surprise and all that stuff."

Well, last year my roommate and friend, Jess, threw me a surprise party. And you could definately feel the tension in the air at the party. Some of my friends were upset about not getting to be part of the planning team. Others were in bad moods for various reasons. And it all showed. Except for all the uncomfortableness, I still had a good time.

This year is different. Instead of the usual, "I don't know what I want" answer I give people ask what I want, I made sure they'd know. This weekend I wrote out a list of exactly what I wanted for my birthday. Then today, I set up my own birthday dinner and invited my friends to it.

That may sound kinda odd. Or it may sound like my friends don't care. But they really do. You see, every other year since I've been in college my birthday's always been on a weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). This year it's on Tuesday, the middle of the week. College students have homework to do, study sessions and meetings to go to. There's not much time to do anything. This last weekend we had a party for Kel's boyfriend and this weekend we're going to Six Flags for Halloween. So there's no place for my birthday celebrations on the weekend.

That's why I decided to take matters into my own hands. Afterall, people plan for their own Christmas celebrations, Easter celebrations, their wedding! Why can't I plan my birthday. Besides, I know I'll like what happens because I decided on it.

I won't do this every year. I like surprises. But I also like this. There have been past birthdays when I have done things I didn't want to do, but did anyway because I didn't want to make those who planned it feel bad. This year is like a breath of fresh air. I don't have to worry about what we will do. And my friends don't have to worry about what we will do.

I have not felt this happy, excited, and confident in a long time. This is such a good day.
Well, my dinner is in 15 minutes. So siging off,

The Birthday Queen
