Niggles
We all know the downside of anticipating and enjoying an event; that 'It's all over now' feeling. I'm not rich or posh and it's not often I can afford something special. I've had some good birthdays in the past, but back in my time eighteen was nothing special and my twenty-first a birthday I'd rather forget. The year before my fiftieth bithday I suffered a long illness, resulting in early retirement and a lot of unpleasantness. But I swore from that moment on I would make EVERY birthday a reason to celebrate. I've had some good ones but this year will be remembered as the best yet. It may be all over but no one can take the lovely memories away, or the friends who made it such a special day.

There have been some niggles about one thing and another since then, but I'm focussing mainly on the good things. Hopefully it will be third time lucky regarding my sister's visit and she should be with us shortly this afternoon until Tuesday.

My friends and I decided we'd love another day out and are already planning a day at Ascot next June. I shall be studying fancy hats every time I go out now. Whether it happens or not I leave in the hands of fate but already some of the wimmins have contributed a little towards the saving fund, so we'll do our best.

I've been putting all my lovely presents away and studying a little closer the books of philosophies and cartoons I've been given by various people. My son presented me with one called 'Old is Great!' Here are a few things from it I found amusing...

1. Old is when you think of registering with your doctor as a hypochondriac.

2. Old is when your boss is younger than you are and a woman.

3. Old is when you regret not marrying a millionaire and then realise one never asked you.

4. Old is when you can't remember the last time you had sex with your husband and your husband can't remember either.

5. Old is when your son starts treating you with respect.

There's hope for me yet then!

No doubt you poor folk will be subjected to more little snippets as I read them; you know one day I might even find some words of wisdom of my own! You don't believe in miracles huh?
