Paxil

"Paper's cheaper than paxil", he said.
But for me, it was free ...
until my insurance ran out.

Then, I shook.
And my pencil shook too.
Still, I wrote.
Even when paper became an expense,
too extravagant to maintain,

I wrote.
The shaking never stopped;
but, it lessened now and then ...
Death was cheaper than paxil, too,
they said. Others would bear the cost.
Then, what would I write
without pen and paper?

I shake these words in the shadowland
between the worlds of death and paxil.
