I AM A CRAZY POET

[I am crazy about rhyme, meter and ghazal]



I am a crazy poet,
Smitten to degree such:
I keep on writing poems
Which do not value much

My craziness is so much
That I am too stubborn:
Only in rhyme and meter
I make my feelings known.

Some say that it does curtail
Freedom of expression.
But for me rhyme and meter
Are a crazy passion.

Deep in my heart I believe
A poet has no skill,
If in rhyme and meter his
Stanzas he cannot fill.

I have been writing mainly
Quatrains and some couplets.
But I have written also
A dozen of sonnets.

Then there are so many of
French and Japanese forms
Which, too, have been written by
Me, observing all norms.

But the form of poetry
That’s dear to myself,
Is ghazal, occupying the
Top of my mental shelf.

Classical ghazals are not
Written much in English.
I wish many more poets
Devote talent to this.
