A Christmas Carol
I hope everyone who is celebrating Thanksgiving has a wonderful day. We're having a boring old English stew but seeing as it's cold, blustery and raining it seems appropriate.

Thank you for those very interesting comments on my last grump about Christmas. It's good we all have different opinions and can share them and respect other people's views. I enjoyed reading about Mel aka Mrs Tor 's preparations for Thanksgiving in her blog but the song she posted reminded me of my own personal favourite Christmas song.

When I was a teenager (Oh how I wish I still was!) my mum and uncle had a love of Tom Lehrer which rubbed off on me. These are the words of his very own Chrismas Carol...

Christmas time is here by golly,
Disapproval would be folly,
Deck the halls with hunks of holly,
Fill the cup and don't say 'when.'

Kill the turkeys, ducks *Cry* and chickens,
Mix the punch, drag out the Dickens,
Even though the prospect sickens,
Brother, here we go again.

On Christmas day you can't be sore,
Your fellow man you must adore,
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three-hundred and sixty-four.

Relations sparing no expense'll
Send some useless old utensil,
Or a matching pen and pencil,
Just the thing I need, how nice.

It doesn't matter how sincere it is,
Or how heartfelt the spirit,
Sentiment will not endear it,
What's important is the price.

Hark the herald tribune sings,
Advertising wonderous things.
God rest ye merry merchants, may ye make the Yuletide pay.
Angels we have heard on high,
Tell us to go out and buy.

So let the raucous sleigh bells jingle,
Hail our dear old friend Christingle,
Driving his rendeer across the sky.
But don't stand underneath when they fly by.

Seems there's always been cynics and bah humbug people about. That song was written almost fifty years ago. Oh well, off to cook the stew. Have a great day my friends.
