These poems are about the strength of humanity and its weakness. They carve our image. |
This is dedicated to those who have fought the big C. Relay for the Cure They were told by a sad-voiced doctor That their days were numbered on Earth. But they gulped down the death-gripping fear, And followed the cures that he ordered. Operations were scheduled and done With white-fisted clasps of the hand From loved ones who gathered around With carnations and vases of roses. Others fragranced the hospital rooms And were sent by neighbors and friends Who’d forwarded love and good wishes For their speedy recoveries in health. But then that quickly was over As patients returned to their homes. Yet still there were Chemo and drugs. And sick days that followed the good. The worries abounded and fretted, But weeks became months and then years. For those patients had finally conquered The fiercest of dragons called Cancer. They looked into death and they triumphed. Now joyfully they wave flags of victory And they march in the Relay for Cure. To show us the face of the Brave. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
