Soul Dust
All about me others drop pieces of their soul. I am afraid or unwilling to release mine.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Soul Dust
         As I pass through days and years,
         About me lie portions of soul dust,
         Shed like snake skins or innocence.
         I hear it crunching beneath my feet.
         It makes me clasp firmly to my own pieces.
         I lash them to me with affirmations.
         Sometimes I think I can hold me together
         By smiling and looking into the day,
         Or by breathing small, and slowing melody.
         Mostly that works, except now and then.
         Yet there are times when I hear cries as I walk,
         And I see tears lying on the ground.
         But the sky is in my eyes, and I walk on.
         And so I cross into my tomorrows,
         Clutching my soul dust as if it were a child.
