From my Journal (edited):

page 1004

Went to a conference. Went to a session on low-income renters. Met up with quite a few folks I already know. Hubbard has hooked me into planting tomatoes at Pélathé on Monday.

Prairie Home Companion had some awesome mandolin music on. I miss NPR, soft music, having choices. So much gone. There comes a point where being dead or alive has no point. No point at all.

So Italy and U.S. tied and Ghana trashed the Czech! One must show up and play. No one gts a free ticket. Buffalo Wild Wings had the game on. Red Lyon shows them all.

So tired. I ordered a coffee to try to wake up. Atthe conference, I browsed through the cheese and roast beef. Drank lemonade. Gary thinks I don't look good - I don't.

Last night it was burgers, hot dogs, pork, potato salad, etc. at the block party. No hysteria, ambulances, cops. Over 100. A mix of neighbors, providers, staff, homeless, etc. Spoke with a commisioner Mike Rundle and a state senator ... Basically went well.

Hub's off to Hell. I'm soon to follow. Might rain tonight. The sprinkles at 3 a.m. weren't enough.

At the Drop Dead Center

He shares his anger:
quick, loud, a scattered blast,
buckshot to the nerves.

She slams the door,
a hollow bang. The building shudders.
We huddle in our holes.

They fight their fights,
sharp and furious, the voice of reason
not allowed.

We who sit in purgatory,
get to see this vision of hell.

In the alley north of Ninth:

Constant chirp of birds, new acorns on the oak; a wasp; red H's on the pavement; bark peeling off the sycamore; a fallen nest; potato bug; balloonflower; white hyacinth; pot of creeping yellow sedum.

At Henry's:

Curved iron rail of green flaking paint; two people playing Exquisite Corpse; blue metal sign with a tube of lights wound around them; long grey hair held back in a pony tail; 2 braided auburn pigtails; red umbrellas; a black and yellow motorcycle; a black and white and yellow helmet; a shirt from a rival coffeehouse; flyers for a concert by Las Chicas, July the 6th.

Prompt: If you had only minutes or hours left to live ... who would you want to spend them with? What would you say? What would you do?

I know my answer! But I just can't share it here *Bigsmile*.
