         on Father's Day

Two old men dance down the line,
green sleeves waving, red tails flapping,
shoulders bent to white plastic hangers.

They prance east or west as the wind directs
as drying grass below accepts
whatever moisture they excrete.

They lurch agitated by a gust,
hold fast to the purple bungee cord
that tethers them between two poles.

The breeze, the breeze, the breeze,
they wheeze, hot and weary,
drying in the shadows of a setting sun.

IMAGES:

Day at home: robins searching for grub in the overturned soil; the slow flap of an owl chased by a bevy of birds; a rabbit quiet by the redbud bush; elm branches waving; chit of two cardinals; peach glow of the sunset fading to the dance of fireflies; drone of cicada.

THOUGHTS:

God handles the big picture; the Devil's in the details. I must remember to breathe. I can only do so much without over-stressing myself. Yesterday, I dug up a small garden patch; today, I'll do more. It keeps me busy while I practice patience for other good things to happen ... whenever they happen.

Sublimation (solid to vapor): what was there's no longer there. Ice, transformed from invisibilty into diamond crystals by the cold, is warmed by sun streaming gold or blown by winds, returning to the nothingness of vapor.
