My blog--I pull a card--if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it is for you?

Branford
I needed to write a poem for the 11th week of Stretch Your Style. The chosen prompt form is a dorsimbra.

Actually love this form, though I'm not good at discerning meter, and mine is often wonky, the syllable count is correct, but the stressed and unstressed syllables might be wrong.

Nevertheless, I like the combination of structure and free-form in the dorsimbra. It reminds me of jazz itself, and so the form was perfect for an ode to Branford Marsalis.

The dorsimbra is a 3-stanza poem --each stanza is a quatrain

the first stanza written in iambic pentameter with rhyme scheme abab

second stanza---a quatrain of short and snappy free verse

third stanza--a quatrain of blank verse

I also couldn't resist an allusion to the Schumann resonance--it all fit so well...

Will write further on the Schumann resonance...
