Strength--Cayenne

I have been bedbound the last two days, recovering from some weird upper respiratory thing. I can't even imagine the piles of work waiting for me back at the office! And to make matters worse, I have jury duty this week----and my number will probably be called Wednesday or Thursday. So, strength is a virtue I need right now---with a sprinkling of cayenne to clear up the sinuses.

Katya the Poet 's current poetry assignment is based on poetry by Mary Oliver---one of my favorite poets. I'm doing an internet search for the poems she is referencing----but just might break down and buy the volume they are in.

One of my favorite poems of Olivers is Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Been watching MSNBC while confined to bed.....I found the Ted Kennedy/Caroline Kennedy endorsement of Barack Obama quite moving......Fortunately, I already voted in the Florida Primary, the one that doesn't count, by absentee ballot.

I did vote for Obama, liberal that I am.....it will be interesting to see what transpires in the coming months.
