My blog--I pull a card--if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it is for you? |
Today is a major pagan holiday----Lammas Day....it is essentially a celebration of harvest and first fruits....today is a New Moon...and a Solar Eclipse.....though I am not a Wiccan, I love the old traditions and the connections to the natural cycles of the earth....most of us are disconnected from our environments. Most of the poets and writers that I admire, that move my heart, are keen observers of their environment and the natural world....even in the city, the suburbs, we need our connections to our great Wild Mother....whatever our religious affiliations are...and indeed much of the liturgical cycle in many religions are closely aligned with the natural world. There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground, And swallows circling with their shimmering sound; And frogs in the pools singing at night, And wild plum-trees in tremulous white; Robins will wear their feathery fire Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire; And not one will know of the war, not one Will care at last when it is done. Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree If mankind perished utterly; And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn, Would scarcely know that we were gone. "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Sara Teasdale And an older poem of mine...written 3 years ago for Lammas Day...will be working on another... "First Fruit ( a poem for LammasDay)" And I have stumbled across a new, young writer on the site....truly enjoued this poem...it speaks to me of why I write and why I read...
And Dear Readers....my blog has managed to reach over 2,000 views...I know compared to others that's small potatoes....but echoing Rumi a wish for my readers, friends, lovers, for indeed you are all that....on this Holy Lammas Day.... MAY YOU BE FLUNG OUT LIKE LIGHT OVER THIS PLAIN..... |
