Prompt #4: December 26, 2009
My response to the fourth prompt in the Frontliners 12 Day of blogging contest, which is to Political correctness of using term: "Christmas"

I think the political correctness of using the term Christmas depends on the situation and the people involved. I use the term Happy Holidays because I don’t celebrate Christmas; however, I wish one brother and his wife a Merry Christmas because they are Christians and celebrate Christmas. I wish my other brother and his wife a Happy Chanukah because they Chanukah. When I’m not sure what a person celebrates or if they celebrate this time of year, I wish them Happy Holidays.

When someone wishes me a Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas or Bah Humbug, I smile at the person and use the same term. The problem with political correctness is that people focus on the small issues i.e. the symptoms and not the disease. The ills of modern civilization or society can’t be cured by attacking the symptoms because it’s the disease that is the problem.
