Post requiem

He’s dead,
they said,
blunt as they could be,
aiming to hurt with spitting hate,
sure to shock you.

Yes, he’s dead, you said.
…and smiled,
knowing he was watching, waiting,
standing right behind you there,
hand on shoulder,
light as breath
as breathing you inhaled his fragrance,
exhaled as one again.

I have no idea what inspired this... Three days gone and my mind is blank. I always think of a dear friend and I'm sure that is always part of it, consciously or not. Still not sure of the pronouns, but it was originally You/I. He/you works better, although I also considered you/he and he/he. Choice of pronoun is important to provide the correct perspective and distance.

Richard Hugo again! Selected Poems and The Triggering Town. Mira, my new neighbor, suggests reading Elegance of the Hedgehog.

Went to a reading/signing last night for a book of nursing stories. Very good. *Smile* She had two nurses in the audience read what they had submitted. Very good.
