Another plate full of the meat and vegetables of my life. |
Another predictable result in both the finals of the Wimbledon tennis tournament and another disappointing lack of excitement in both. The Monday after the two weeks of Wimbledon we christened Doom and Gloom day as a fortnight of visiting or being glued to the matches on television came to an end.Not so much nowadays, but then most Monday's are pretty gloomy anyway. I spent very many happy times at Wimbledon with my Mum and it's at such times I miss her most. So, before the memory of this year's competition fades completely I'm posting another little composition of random thoughts in here and in my new folder. Another rather sad one I'm afraid, but don't worry. I'm not always a miserable sod; only about ninety-nine and a half per cent of the time. Familiar theme music Once signifying ecstasy Now disturbingly heart-wrenching. Time, the great healer Not able to enter this arena. The purples and greens Strawberries and cream Aces and volleys A bitter sweet reminder Of simpler, happier times. We loved this place Explored every forgotten corner Shot every colourful angle Complained about the heat, rain, wind Grumbled over the cost, seats, crowds Criticised the food, play, views. And yet our annual paradise Where laughter reigned Carefree hearts revelled Giggles barely suppressed Precious memories now. Life and tournaments go on Winners still euphoric The tears of losers Mingling with my own Now for the ultimate loss My own Wimbledon partner. Summer Blues July 4th 2010 |
