Why do I write?
Word count: 583

Author’s Note: I got the idea for this entry from an essay I reviewed on writing.com. Bikerider wrote the essay "WHY I WRITE.

Why do I write? I write because there may be no tomorrow. I write because immortality beckons. I write because I have no other choice except to put words on paper or type them into a word-processing document. I write because I have no other choice.

Why do I write? I write because there will be a tomorrow. I write because the coffee is hot and the Dr. Pepper cold. I write because I have to write. I have to put thoughts into sentences and subjects. I write because I have no other choice.

Why do I write? I write because sleep is impossible. I write because I am worried. I write because I am sad. I write because I am happy. I write because there is a story to tell. I write because I have to write.

Why do I write? I write because it gives me something to do besides worry. I write because I want to proclaim that God fulfilled His promise. I write because there is a blank page demanding I hide it nudity. I write because clouds cover a blue sky. I write because I have more to say then I can say in a hundred thousand lives. I write because humanity is a single species.

Why do I write? I write because there is a page devoid of characters. I write because there is a white page begging me to fill it with letters, phrases, paragraphs, metaphors and similes. I write because the cats need food and the floors need sweeping. At this point, I have no idea where this document is going. It started out to answer the question “Why do I write?

I do not thing I am answering that question. I am writing because I have to write something. Today is an especially difficult day, but everyday is difficult any more.

Why do I write? I write because it is a difficult day. I write because I have to get through the day and I cannot get through the day without writing. I write because if I did not write I would give up. I write because giving up is not an option. I write because despite how difficult the day is there is always hope.

Why do I write? I write because there is always hope hidden the most unusual places. I write because I find hope in writing. I read because I find hope in reading. I write because I read and I read because I write.

Why do I write? I write because I have to write. I write because I have to put my thoughts on paper, in a computer document or post them to a blog. I write because I have to get my thoughts straight and the only way to sort things out is to put fingers to keyboard and type words into a document. I write because I cannot stop writing.

Why do I write? I write because there is beauty in the universe. I write because there is ugliness in the universe. I write because I live in a world on the verge of peace. I write because somewhere on the planet there is a war. I write because somewhere someone is praying for peace. I write because somewhere someone is dying. I write because somewhere someone is being born or giving birth.
