They Kill Trees for This

There are eighteen people running for Mayor of Las Vegas. Six days a week, I receive flyers through the mail touting one or more candidates’ attributes for Mayor. These flyers will go in the trash and eventually to a landfill. Some company made these flyers from the wood of trees. It seems absurd to kill trees to get someone elected for Mayor, City Council, or some other political office.

I see ads that ask me to conserve, to go green, or to plant trees. However, politicians send flyers and letters, which are the products of dead trees, asking me to elect them to an office, so that they can run the ward, the city or the country. Trees die so that some elected official can send junk to my house, junk, which I may or may not read depending on whether I plan to early vote or wait until Election Day to cast my ballot.

Each time I receive a political letter or card, I wonder if the politician sending these items care if trees die or not. I wonder if becoming Mayor or City Council Person is more important then whether or not a tree dies in the bid for the office. I know that Las Vegas and other cities face greater problems then a tree dying to get a politician elected.
