Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills.

Off to Costa Rica next week.
ME:

I bought my tickets. Over $600 or $150 more than a year ago. Still need to buy my tickets to LA.

So... I'll be in Costa Rica from June 9 till July 10.

I really wanted to fly into Liberia in Guanacaste, but the details... Anyhoo, a bus doesn't cost that much nor take that long. Possible destinations:

Rincon de la Vieja, a volcano with mud pits and fumeroles, and waterfalls... It's a day trip from Liberia (where I'd stay).

La Cruz, near the Nicaraguan border. There are three beaches to visit and I suspect the small town may provide interesting vistas as well.

Nicoya. Old cowboy town. Could visit Santa Cruz, another old town and Samara, a beach about an hour away that's popular with tico families and good for swimming.

All of these are in the Northwest in Guanacaste. To the east and south:

Tilaran, also in Guanacaste could provide access to a small village, Arenal, on Lake Arenal, La Fortuna, Ciudad Quesada. This is wind-surfing country... I don't surf. And volcano country... but Arenal's not erupting spectacularly. There are various side trips.

Ciudad Quesada in Alajuela sits at 700 meters and has a cool climate... I want to check it out and compare it to Perez Zeledon.

Santa Elena isn't as well known as Monteverde but both have high elevation rain forest. It's near Tilaran but not easy to get to. It's in the Province of Puntarenas.

The above include places I vaguely remember visiting 36 years ago and places I've never been.

The rest of the month would be visiting Perez Zeledon more than once. Revisiting Quepos, Zarcero, Grecia, Orosi, Turrialba ...maybe Sabalito and Santa Maria de Dota.

I still would like to visit Parismina on the Caribbean... maybe this trip? Or it might be too much.

Last trip my body gave up after 5 weeks.

I'm going to try to spend less time in San Jose because I was there so much in January.

In the end I should be glad if I were to visit a beach or three, a volcano and a few places I've never visited and made some firm contacts regarding my return in December. I have only a month!

Now to pack, clean, and be happy... *Smile*
