Memories in the rain
I spent Thursday and Friday in Wimbledon with my sister. A real trip down memory lane and emotional as well as very enjoyable.

i spent many happy times with my Mum in London during the Wimbledon fortnight as did my sister, but although we sometimes met up we never actually stayed there together. A first for us and a precious reminder how important siblings are when our parents are no longer with us.

We've been planning and looking forward to this trip for a while. We travelled down by first class train and had a lovely day revisiting familiar haunts in glorious sunshine on Thursday. There were many laughs, a few tears and a lot of alcohol involved, but a lovely day indeed.

Friday dawned with yet more rain. We had tickets for Court One at Wimbledon so were quite happy to avoid the hype of Andy Murray on Centre Court who we openly admit we can't stand. Play was delayed, but we did see the Williams sisters win their semi-final in the doubles.

All too soon it was time to come home, but an ambition achieved at least. I consider myself lucky to have a sister I really get on with and love. Shared memories are so important and I hope in the future we'll make many more.

So I'm happy Serena won the Ladies singles and much as I'm not a big Federer fan I'll be rooting for him tomorrow when the Scottish brat whines and moans on Centre Court. If he wins I'm afraid I'll think it a very strange coincidence that a Brit wins Wimbledon in the Diamond Jubilee year, just as the last one did when it was the Silver.

God, I wish my cynical head was removable.
