The Oneness of Humanity
The April 11, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS is
On this day in 1968, President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. This act protected the rights of people, including African-Americans and women.
How far do you think we have come in the past 45 years? Have we done enough? What do you think still needs to be done?

We have came a long way, but we still have a long way to go. The Civil Rights Act had an affect on the laws of this nation and not on the hearts or minds of individual human beings. There are still people in this this country and across the world that see the differences of skin color, nationality, religion, native language, etc. as important distinctions. There are still people in the world that focus on the differences between the components of the human species and make these important indicators of the superiority of one group of human being over another.

Humanity is a single species, which is proven by the fact that the people of different skin tones, nationality, religious affiliation, etc. can mate successfully with each other and produce viable offspring. There are other proofs of the oneness of humanity in both scientific and religious circles (creation stories and myths). Until the oneness of humanity is accepted on the level of the individual there will always be people who attempt to discriminate against those they consider inferior to themselves.

A single species
scattered across the planet,
the physical differences
accidents of climate
and isolation.

A single species
coming together in unity
as a new age dawns.

Food for Thought: "...Bahá’u’lláh taught the Oneness of humanity; that is to say, all the children of men are under the mercy of the Great God. They are the sons of one God; they are trained by God. He has placed the crown of humanity on the head of every one of the servants of God. Therefore all nations and peoples must consider themselves brethren. They are all descendants from Adam. They are the branches, leaves, flowers and fruits of One Tree. They are pearls from one shell. But the children of men are in need of education and civilization, and they require to be polished, till they become bright and shining." - ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in London, page 28: Discourse of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá given at the Theosophical Head Quarters.
