Memories in the Attic
Memories in the Attic

Tucked away in an attic
In faded black and white
I see a child all alone
Surrounded by the light

Who is this child of long ago
I cannot see her face
but letters scrawled in black and white
tell me of her place

Memories of her childhood.
Have faded over time
And while I know her stories
The images weren't mine

My grandmother worked for hours
Farming her family fields
But when workdays were over
Would wander in the hills

She dreamed about her future
And the mother she would be
And someone took her picture
For her children to really see

That once she was a child
With hopes and dreams of life
With children, husband, family
And a future free of strife

But until I found this picture
She was just a memory
Her stories no longer distant past
I know her, she's like me
