April Fools Day

control's illusion
hides from us the path of faith
tomorrow unknown

Istijlal (Majesty), 13 Bahá (Splendour), 172 BE - Thursday, April 2, 2015

A trip to the optometrist
took most of the day
with tests in his office
and waiting to get
a prescription for eyeglasses.

Now I must find
the money to purchase
new glasses
so that I can see
if men make passes
at women who wear glasses.

Istiqlal (Independence), 14 Bahá (Splendour), 172 BE - Friday, April 3, 2015
Good Friday

Good Friday coffee
Strong enough to motivate
A chilly morning

Jalal (Glory), 15 Bahá (Splendour), 172 BE - Saturday, April 4, 2015

Writing about food
makes me hungry for the food
I am describing.

Reading about food
generates my appetite
for the food describe

Jamal (Beauty), 16 Bahá (Splendour), 172 BE - Sunday, April 5, 2015
Easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday
Wind blows litter down the street
Clouds conceal blue sky

Kamal (Perfection), 17 Bahá (Splendour), 172 BE - Monday, April 6, 2015

Over-thinking Monday morning,
the wind is blowing
and the birds are silent
until I write about their silence.

Once I write they are silent
then they begin to sing
as the wind rocks the nest
they built
in the pine tree.

Can the birds read my mind
on Monday morning?
Am I over-thinking?

Fiḍal (Grace), 18 Bahá (Splendour), 172 BE - Tuesday, April 7, 2015
Primary Election Day

}Idal (Justice), 19 Bahá (Splendour), 172 BE - Wednesday, April 8, 2015

1

A breezy Wednesday
Dawn's nightingales singing
Mourning doves cooing

2

My coffee cup is empty!

Where did that black silk liquid go?

I don't remember drinking it
while listening
to the birds of morning sing.

I pour myself another cup of joe,
I stand sipping it
while looking out my door
at the pigeons
scavenging in the street.

Istijlal (Majesty), 1 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Thursday, April 9, 2015
Feast of Jalál (Glory)

Thursday morning clouds
Mother Nature's gray-white hair
Dyed blue by the rising sun

Istiqlal (Independence), 2 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Friday, April 10, 2015

Another beautiful day
in Las Vegas.

The birds are singing,
the clouds are blowing across
the blue sky,
and the Friday pizza guy
is shouting
"Pizza! Pizza!"

Jalal (Glory), 3 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Saturday, April 11, 2015

Saturday morning
Listening to the neighborhood
Litter in the street

Jamal (Beauty), 4 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Sunday, April 12, 2015

Sunday serenade
birds are singing unafraid
of the cats that prowl below.

Kamal (Perfection), 5 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Monday, April 13, 2015

Monday serenade
April's birds joyfully greet dawn
Another glorious day

Fiḍal (Grace), 6 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Tuesday, April 14, 2015

1

Tuesday serenade
Street sweeper drives east and west
Along Sunrise Avenue.

2

You know you're getting old when...
you take your cellphone
to the bathroom with you,
not because
you intend to answer it in there
but, because
you don't want to forget
where you put it.

Idal (Justice), 7 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Wednesday serenade
after last night's wind storm
birds sing,
cats yawl,
and a morning breeze
whispers through
palm frowns
and pine tree.

Istijlal (Majesty), 8 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Thursday, April 16, 2015

Partly cloudy sky
shapes like flying dragons
draw my attention.

Istiqlal (Independence), 9 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Friday, April 17, 2015

Beautiful morning
spent in an AARP
senior driving course.

Jalal (Glory), 10 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Saturday, April 18, 2015

I opened the door
In the trees happy birds sang
Another day dawned.

Jamal (Beauty), 11 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Sunday, April 19, 2015

Las Vegas Sunday
thin clouds, blue sky, singing birds
a new week begins.

Kamal (Perfection), 12 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Monday, April 20, 2015

A train whistle echoes,
its moans
reverberating
through the silent morning
awakens the city
to another day of labor.

Fiḍal (Grace), 13 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Tuesday, April 21, 2015
First Day of Ridvan

Clouds, sunshine, blue sky,
a gentle breeze waves palm frowns
and boughs of pine trees.

Idal (Justice), 14 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Wednesday, April 22, 2015
Second Day of Ridvan

Cool Wednesday morning
Cloud shapes decorate blue sky:
Happy Earth Day!

Istijlal (Majesty), 15 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Thursday, April 23, 2015

Las Vegas Thursday
Patches of gray and white clouds
Sail across the sky

Istiqlal (Independence), 16 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Friday, April 24, 2015
Fourth Day of Ridvan

1

The flap of pigeon wings,
in the distance a train announces its presence,
birds sing in the palm trees;
a cool desert morning.

2

I need to laugh
so I visit Facebook
at least
once a day.

Jalal (Glory), 17 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Saturday, April 25, 2015
Fifth Day of Ridvan

My finger forget
the location of the keys
upon the keyboard,
so sometimes the mistype
a word,
a phrase,
or URL.

Jamal (Beauty), 18 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Sunday, April 26, 2015
Sixth Day of Ridvan

A cold wind blowing
Down Las Vegas avenues
The homeless shiver

Kamal (Perfection), 19 Jalál (Glory), 172 BE - Monday, April 27, 2015
Seventh Day of Ridvan

Two little dogs walk
East on Sunrise Avenue
Sniffing the palm trees

Fiḍal (Grace), 1 Jamál (Beauty), 172 BE - Tuesday, April 28, 2015
Eight Day of Ridvan and Feast of Jamál (Beauty)

April becomes May
Do not forget Mother's Day
When you kneel to pray

Idal (Justice), 2 Jamál (Beauty), 172 BE - Wednesday, April 29, 2015
Ninth Day of Ridvan

Morning shopping
in a half empty grocery store
quick check out,
but come the first
the store
will be packed.

Istijlal (Majesty), 3 Jamál (Beauty), 172 BE - Thursday, April 30, 2015
Tenth Day of Ridvan

Good-by dear April
parting is such sweet...
Why is parting sweet sorrow?

Parting is a sorrowful occasion!
Even knowing
that April will roll around again next year;
it's still a sorrowful event.

Next April will be a different April.
I will be a year older and perhaps wiser,
so maybe then I will understand
why parting is such sweet sorrow.
