Mourning tides
Mourning tides

         Jonas Beger (October 22, 1996 - September 6, 2015)

Their search has ended and you are found.
In this quiet we wait for words of wisdom
but deep warm water has stripped your laughter.
For two days now all words have floated away.

Surf will no longer pull at hair,
sun no longer burn inside you.
You'll never wrinkle beyond this hour.
Your bright light shrinks into a star.

Your dreams forever will remain just dreams
as your voice, your touch, your taste, your smell,
fade as this storm within us fades,
until mourning tides sweep all away.

I met Jonas on July 31st in San José, Costa Rica and was very impressed by his bright cheerfulness. He went to Matapalo near Quepos as a volunteer for the local turtle conservation project. He drowned on September 6th.
